Buying a new graphics card

Okay, I've done a bit of searching and it appears the Radeon R9 290 is gotten good ratings. Thoughts?

I bought that too, serious bang for your buck mate.

I can play EVERYTHING on it, only stuff I've had trouble with is processor heavy stuff like Total War Series, Shogun II don't run so well.

But again that's not the card it's the processor, I've been able to play every single game on Ultra at 60 FPS, including Shadow of Mordor and Alien Isolation.

Beauty.

Mine is the model below, the 2 gig.

Going with the 4 gig will give you even more power, but as far as my limited budget, the 2 gig did me just fine and it came with 3 free games including isolation when I ordered off newegg.

I'm partial to Nvidia, but I recognize that AMD makes good cards, too. But I want to make another suggestion: Go with a cheaper card...but get two of them. For example, two GTX 970's will give much better performance in BF4 than one GTX 980 or one R9 290X. It will probably cost you a bit more, though. But you can go lower than that and still do very well in BF4. Two GTX770's or even GTX680's (You can get them on eBay, I think) will kick ass in that game...even at 1440p. Heck, even two GTX760's will kick ass in BF4 at 1080p. And those are pretty cheap cards. Just thought I would add this:

As much with anything in life you can quibble over different aspects of a cards performance as well as what is best for your needs in the realm of what you can afford.
Bottom line, it is all a matter of personal preference.

Me, I will be updating to one of the following two.

ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 970
Graphics Cards - STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 - ASUS

Thanks for the advice. Back to the graphics card, I'm wondering what the real difference between the 290 and 290X is, besides price.

Clock speed of the GPU and Memory.

Just installed 16GB of SDRAMM

Received my XFX Radeon R9 290X card today.

Not jealous at all.. nooo.. not at all!

I've noticed a huge improvement. Just have to get my Battlefield 4 account fixed.

Good. Send it back, get a refund, and get a GTX 970. It outperforms the 290X and literally consumes half as much power. Which makes it run cooler and quieter and also makes it overclock better.

Not that you need to overclock a 970 if you're playing BF4 at 1080p.

Addendum: The 290X can perform better in some games at resolutions higher than 1080p, but not by much, and I suspect the superior overclocking capability of the 970 will make up the difference.
