What Games Are You Playing?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Loads of fun and good bang for the buck.

My wife asked me if I wanted the new COD: Advanced Warfighter and I said no, not this time. $60 for a game and a 6-8 hour campaign just isn't worth it anymore. Much more playtime with open world games like Borderlands.

>>>>

Me too. Played Borderlands 2 for hundreds of hours. The "aging guns" gimmick is great for hiding the leveling treadmill.

It is hard to see that gun that laid waste on level ten become worthless at level fifteen, but its exciting to slug on through with weak guns praying for a good drop.

And you get to play Claptrap. "He's not stupid, he's advanced".

I'm not into video games as much as I was even a year ago, so my gaming interests are pretty narrow in scope. I recently got Steam, however, so my horizons are likely to broaden again, and I am currently into Robocraft and especially Risk of Rain. Games that I still play occasionally are Halo Reach, Starcraft I/Brood War, and Skyrim.

I hope its as good as Arkham City (which I played and finished).
Now that was a good game. Its only downside was that, once I beat the game, I had little to do but glide around and beat people up, and that got old quickly. Pretty good replay value, though.

EDIT: I also found Catwoman to be kind of annoying

Careful, that game has destroyed the lives of several of my friends

OK so I finally swallowed my pride and upgraded my desktop to Win7 so I could get more games to install.

I recently tried Far Cry 3 but I just couldnt get into it. Felt like an Eli Roth movie with all those pirates and hostages in the jungle and all, not my thing.

Batman Arkham Origins I just started playing and so far its pretty good, I hope its as good as Arkham City (which I played and finished).

I only do one game constantly and that's World of Tanks, got almost 15,000 battles in that game. I do play on occasion Star Craft 2. Every once in a while I will break out IWAR 2. Only the best space simulator game ever made I think.

Starcraft I. I recently got addicted to EU4, **** that game, it got me addicted.

If you like the combat style you might enjoy Shadows of Mordor. It's basically like Batman and Assassin's Creed had a baby and that baby went to Mordor and got infected with a magic elf ghost.

Many orcs are killed.

Hmmm, OK, I'll check it out. My queue is pretty big right now because once I finish Arkham Origins I'll start playing XCOM Enemy Unknown then Dragon Age: Inquisitor (I loved DA: Origins but I hated DA2) then GTA V when it comes out on the PC (I got all the GTA games and Im totally addicted to them too).

I may play that pretty soon. I get all the Batman games (including Lego Batman) for my son, but only really played the first one. So I've got Arkham City and Origins to play. Aside from that, I got the expansion for Xcom (the new one) a little while ago and have been back into that. Loved the original, and really like the the new one too. I am also waiting for a sale on Xenonauts, which seems to be a really good remake of the original Xcom.

Yeah Im a big XCOM fan since way back (I recently replayed Terror From the Deep again just to finish it) and will play the new game once I finish the AO.

Yeah I didnt like Catwoman either. AO is pretty much the same as AC but it just seems smaller to me. The nice thing about it is Batman's costume is just like the Nolan movies, its more of a military body armor than a set of tights which is more realistic in my view.

I never finished "Terror from the Deep", (extremely difficult game) but I have it on Steam, I picked up the entire old XCOM package at some point for like $5 or something. I am playing Enemy Unknown right now, but I had to back track a bit because I got myself into a bit of a pickle with the troops getting injured.

I finished a mission with everyone injured, most only a day or two, but it keeps throwing a Terror mission at me with no time to heal. So I have zero soldiers to go out, and I'm not in a position to pass it up. At least I have a save that is not too old. But it is a really good expansion, and I am enjoying it.

With Terror From the Deep I kinda cheated since I used editing software to give XCOM a billion Dollars in its budget (hey, the entire world is under attack by aliens and we have to beg for money? That doesnt make any sense.) and increased the damage of the gauss weapons so it made the game a little bit easier.

Yea. I picked up all those old XCOM games on steam a while ago.

I couldn't really get into them. The learning curve was too damn steep, and they didn't come with any instruction manuals, which made it a royal bitch to learn how to play. I kind of gave up on them after an afternoon or two as such.

I thought the remake was great though. I've actually been thinking about installing that "The Long War Mod" that came out a couple months ago and giving it another play through. Lol

All this talk and I'm thinking of jumping back into TFTD. One thing I used to do was name my troops with friends and family names, but I had to stop because I could never let any of them get killed. Now I just use famous people, but they have to fit the role. Like, I'll never use a politician because I'd never picture them being that brave.

My son loved playing Boderlands 2 as a - I think the term is - "maniac". He likes to get in close a brawl.

On the otherhand I tend to like long range weapons. Hey why brawl when you can retreat and blow their brains out. :)

Top Toggle = Repeater Pistol
Left Toggle = Shotgun
Bottom Toggle = Assault Rifle/SMG
Right Toggle = Sniper

Ive only played the old XCOM games so far (I have the new one but I havent finished Batman yet) but when I started in them it was all through trial and error. There's some good XCOM wikias to get you started on the right strategy. Play XCOM1 first before you go into TFTD because the latter is soo much harder.

When I start I usually look at the highest donor countries and build my base there- so for XCOM1 I would usually put in smack dab in the middle of North America as my starting base. Then I would build one alien containment room for captured aliens (you will need them for tech advances) and then hire around 50 scientists to start with for researching new weapons (as the game progresses the aliens get tougher)- I would research lasers first- they have unlimited ammo and are pretty effective all game. Then hire at least 20 techs to build them. Also hire at least 40 soldiers and go through their stats: get rid of the ones with low courage or movement points. As you take casualties you ought to be hiring replacements every month.

Downed UFOs are usually pretty good loot- always keep extra movement points for reaction fire is the key so when an alien crosses your squaddies path they should automatically shoot them during the alien move phase. Terror sites are pretty tough in XCOM1 because of the Chrysalids so try to keep your distance and have everybody cover each other.

I remember my first ever terror encounter. Not even any Chrysalids but only one of my guys made it out alive. It was tense and exciting!

Me too. Thats why Im not too interested in the Pre-Sequel since there isnt a sniper character to choose from.

The "lawbringer" nisha starts with a sniper rifle. And she has similar boosts to zero in her skill trees, just not sniper specific. Her action skill takes a bit to get a handle on. She auto aims during it. Needs high rate of fire guns with large magazines to work.

I've started a fragtrap, Wilhelm and nisha character. Fragtrap is just odd and dies a lot. Wilhelm is over-powered with the drones. Nisha does OK with a strong shield.

LSS, I play as a sniper with all classes. But borderlands has always forced you to use other guns simply because you can't get a good drop. My first zero reached level eight or nine before he got a good sniper rifle. Pain in my ass.

Pre sequel is fun but not as fleshed out as BL2.

It's been great so far! Though, I've only played like 3 hours. I had some trouble with the Keep, not due to an issue with the Keep, but the Origin account that was linked with my Xbox(where I played Origins and 2) wasn't the same account that was linked with my Playstation(where I'm playing Inquisition). It wouldn't be that bad if you could edit your past hero's names in the Keep, about the only thing you can't change, and I'm crazy and need everything to be right. So I had to get in contact with EA and have them unlink the account that was tied to my PSN.

The bit I have played has been great so far, the combat is excellent, the story has been compelling, and it looks gorgeous. I've got the next two days off so that is all I'm going to be doing basically.

Ive only done one playthrough with borderlands 1 and 2 (played them one after the other) and when I started in BL2 with Zer0 I was able to get a Gearbox sniper rifle and assault rifle right when I started so the begnning wasnt too bad at all- I think it was because I bought the dual game pack and it came bundled with it.

Nice, hehe. I also played DA1 and 2 (loved 1, hated 2) and hopefully will be able to get my past heroes mentioned in it and will play it soon but right now Im still busy cleaning up Gotham City and will soon accept a commission as XCOM commander (for the third time) and save the earth from aliens, only then will I be heading into Thedas after that. ;)

Yeah, I loved both. I actually preferred the story in 2. Hawke is a more relate-able character and the Templar/Mage conflict is just wonderful. The politics, scheming, and backstabbing, it was awesome.

Anyways, Inquisition is just freaking huge. There is so much to explore, and it's all filled with interesting things to do. I swear, you could get lost for 20 hours in the first big area in the game without doing a lot in the main story. The main story is great, it's intriguing, and I just finished a hell of a quest that I won't say anything about. lol The combat mechanics are great, it's much better than 1 and 2, IMO. Also, the mechanics of the inquisition and the quest system is really fun. You can send agents out on quest that help you gain more power, sabotage things, etc. I just can't wait to play more!

You-you liked Dragon Age 2?! That POS game in which every dungeon corridor was exactly the same? The game in which they forced you to play the same character with no choice unlike DA:O?! :scared:

I actually didn't mind DA2 all that much, though I definitely would have preferred that it be structured more like the first game.

The lack of freedom was kind of irritating, but at least the story had enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Personally, I romanced pirate chick (she had a nice ass ), sided with the Templars against the Mages, and executed Anders myself.

I freaking enjoyed that last one too. I mean... Dude, you just blew up the most reasonable authority figure in the whole city, and you started a civil war.

F*ck you.

Edit:

Unfortunately, I think I lost my save when my computer crashed earlier this year, so I'll probably replay it before I start on DA3.

I hated it. First of all, its supposed to be a sequel yet it had nothing to do with DA1 so all the stuff that your DA1 character did amounted to nothing.

Second of all, its clear they rushed the game because the corridors where you go around in all look the same.

Thirdly, there was nothing epic about it- the game took place within a single city while in DA1 you went all over Thedas.

Fourth, the combat was dumbed down so there was no strategy unlike the first game, you would just blast/hack away like WoW. It may have had more eye candy and more explosions but it was all an illusion, like a stupid Michael Bay movie.

Fifth, you couldnt even customize your companions so most of the items for sale were limited.

Sixth, the enemies you had were very limited, not much variations and few monsters too.

Granted the dialogue and characters were good and interesting but it was a huge disappointment for me. DA: Inquisitor needs to be way way better to win me over.

I'll definitely agree that it was "dumbed down," and probably would have better served as a side game to the main series rather than a "sequel."

However, I enjoyed it well enough for what it was. It basically felt like an interactive thriller novel.

As far as it being a sequel that has nothing to do with the previous game goes, I've just kind of come to expect that from BioWare, to be honest.

Right now I'm mostly playing:

- Dota 2
- Counter-Strike: G.O.
- Company of Heroes

I tend to fall in love with just a few games then play them for years and years and years.
I have that same 'problem' w/ Left For Dead.

Yes! I play these games for the story first and foremost, and the story was excellent. The characters are great and I just love being Hawke. She's such a witty bastard, at least the way I play her. The combat wasn't perfect, the enemies were too spongy and the it sucked getting bombarded by a thousand enemies just trying to walk around somewhere at night, but overall, excellent game.

First of all, **** the Templars. I totally sided with the mages and let Anders live. I always play a mage, at least on my first playthrough. It's so much fun being able to shoot lighting out of my hands.

Also, you won't need to play 2 in order to have your choices represented. Just go to Dragon Age Keep and you'll be able to select what you did in the previous 2 games and have them represented in Inquisition.
