What would you pay for this if you were going to buy it from a friend? Excellent condition.

Probably $200 though I'm aware they sell for more than that refurbished. Anymore than that though and I'd save my money and put it towards a newer tablet.

I would go with an android

Gen 2 16 gig...I seriously would probably only pay 100-150. Id tell them no haggling...split the difference and pay 125 (if you REALLy want it).

What were you planning on using it for?

Yeah because the Air is 5th gen, and they are about to come out with 6th gen right before Christmas, from what I hear. I'd give him $100.

50 bucks tops. The iPad 2 is not going to get updated much more, and the latest iOS 8 makes it crawl.

I've looked online and there isn't a single one going for $50.

Because people are idiots and giving a premium for the label. The iPad 2 is ancient tech and is frankly not worth anything. It will last maybe a year before apps wont work because it will require iOS 8+ and iOS 8 runs like a **** on it.

$150-$200. I do a bit of selling of assorted tablets on ebay and that's about what I could get for it. If there are accessories with it, I could get more with a good write up.

Correct. I did a check. On ebay, under "completed auctions" which are auctions where things have been sold, the average price for an excellent condition iPad 2 is between $150 and $200, with most in the upper range. I would add a few "extras", that I would get cheap which would increase the price. I recently bought a few tablets, and then sold them for a profit by doing just that.

My understanding is that when you buy an iPad, you get the tablet and a power supply and that's it.

That's true. However, if you add a screen protector a case, and a stylis, you could increase your selling price by as much as 10%-20%.

I'm still trying to decide what the benefit to me is. I've been playing with my gf's which she is planning to sell. I've gone on facebook and played a game on it. I tend toward my smartphone and PC.

I have a Galaxy Note 3 and a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2... along with my PC. I use my tablet a lot, but then again, it's mostly used as a laptop replacement, something I use to skype with, and as a TV replacement for Netfix and Amazon Prime since I never watch TV and don't own one that isn't at least 20 years old. So, I find a lot of use for it, but it depends on what you might use it for.

The benefits are minimal with an iPad (my son has one).

Games, video, FB is about it.

I would take a laptop any day over a tablet.

Same here. I have a Toshiba Excite tablet that I paid $400 for a couple of years ago that is a paperweight. Other than for Netflix, it's pretty much useless to me, but I couldn't sell it for more than $50.

I wonder if tablets won't everntually die out.

No usable keyboard, no USB, no decent software....you can just carry them around and look cool.

My daughter wanted one for taking HS notes in class and I told her no way.

She can use her Toshiba and actually do real work.....in MS Word!

That's all well and good, but just because other people are idiots, that doesn't mean YOU have to be an idiot.

$75-100 would be the absolute max I would pay and, even then, only if I needed something another tablet couldn't provide..

What would you use it for?
I have a zagg keyboard/cover and use mine for taking notes at conferences and meetings. I also have a pretty extensive music library which is why I bought the 64 gig version and like to download a few movies when I travel. 16 gigs wont give you much space for that. I have computers at my different offices and a travel laptop...so the long and short of it is...not much.

Oh...and I have some game apps the grandkids play.

Wait...is it your girlfirends iPad you are thinking about buying? That changes everything!

It is not my opinion but facts, and the fact that stupid people are willing to pay over the nose for out of date tech just because it has an Apple log on it.
