iPad 2 16GB with wifi and 3G

It is not my opinion but facts, and the fact that stupid people are willing to pay over the nose for out of date tech just because it has an Apple log on it.

Yet again proving that the market determines price, just like I said.

Don't worry, though, I hear that those stupid prices are being paid by Europeans.

Wait...is it your girlfirends iPad you are thinking about buying? That changes everything!

If he is performing adequately, it should be free.

OTOH.....

That's all well and good, but just because other people are idiots, that doesn't mean YOU have to be an idiot.

$75-100 would be the absolute max I would pay and, even then, only if I needed something another tablet couldn't provide..

Completely agree.

If the market determines an unfair price, I don't buy.

Selling, OTOH, I'll take a high price.

I relish being frugal.

For the record, I am a very, very tepid Apple fan.

Not the direction MY mind would go with that scenario at ALL....

Oh over here they jack up prices even more for iDevices and those that buy them are just as stupid. However in most countries they are relatively few..

I do not understand the love of Apple, frankly.

When it comes to computers, proprietary is never good.

I have never considered a Mac over a PC.

Toshiba laptops have been excellent for us for many years.

It is pretty simple.. it has become a fashion statement. When I was "young" the fashion statement or the in thing, was to have sunglasses from Rayban (which were expensive at the time) or Ferrari if you were really cool.. hell Lacoste was fashionable at one time so everyone had to have a polo shirt with a small croc on it.. real or fake. Point is, for all the crap Apple makes, the one thing they have been really good at (other than tax avoidance) is marketing and creating a brand that symbolizes security and quality. That of course does not mean it is secure or quality, but that they can charge an arm and a leg to be part of an exclusive club or cult... and it works. Will it work in the long run..maybe if they can keep their screw ups to a minimum and keep the media on their side.. but only time will tell. Remember 10 years ago Nokia and Blackberry were the fashionable phones out there.

Ever heard of Chivas Regal Whiskey? It is a pricey blended whiskey that comes in a nice box and pretty bottle. It all looks expensive, and oozes of exclusivity and they charge a bundle for it. Now, what most people dont know, is that Chivas Regal started out as a cheap Captain Morgan knock off blended whiskey that could not be given away. So instead they put it in some caramel to flavor it and give it a nice brown color, put it in a nice box and bottle and jack up the price by many 100%... and then it started selling like hotcakes despite it actually being the same knock off Captain Morgan cheap blended whiskey.

It is not much different what Apple is selling these days... they are living of the myth of being an innovator and make secure quality products. Reality is a whole other matter

I just had a similar discussion with my 11 y/o last week about marketing.

I explained about the Nike contracts with professional athletes, and the fact that those costs, coupled with their marketing budget (for all of those uniforms on TV with the 'swoosh') is what causes the ridiculous prices of their shoes.

He listened, and got 3 different pairs of good non-Nike shoes for about half the cost of the Nike's that he had originally asked about.

It pays handsomely to be an educated buyer.

No usable keyboard, no USB, no decent software....you can just carry them around and look cool.

My daughter wanted one for taking HS notes in class and I told her no way.

She can use her Toshiba and actually do real work.....in MS Word!

Actually, depends on the tablet and how you use it.

My Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2 is great for taking handwriten notes. I have a case that has a normal sized keyboard that words as well as one on a laptop. I have another that has a keyboard AND a trackpad. There is a small USB on the Go cable that allows me to connect pretty much any USB device... flash drive, hard drive, mice, etc... I can use Google Docs... or several apps that save documents in Word format. My tablet is completely functional, both as a work device AND as an entertainment device. A tablet certainly can be. Just depends on how you use it.

What would you pay for this if you were going to buy it from a friend? Excellent condition.

How's the battery? Alot of the tablets from that time period are starting to see significant segregation of their batteries. I'd venture you could probably sell as is for $125-150.

There's pretty much no way you're going to get a diehard Android fan to buy that, especially since refurb Nexus 7 2013s are about that price and aside from the screen, that's just a more capable tablet.

Sell it soon if you aren't haven't as the new iPad Air 2 is going to hit driving down prices even more.

The battery seems pretty good to me. It's not me selling it, it's my gf. But she wants too much.

lol, I just noticed I wrote segregation rather than degradation.

Okay, why does she want to sell it? There's nothing wrong with the iPad 2. Yeah, it's obsolete, but pretty much everything tech is obsolete on the day it's released.

She had a iPad Air and a Galaxy something or other.

Ah, spare tablet.

How much is she trying to get for it?

Could donate it at the amount she wants and take it as an itemized deduction assuming she itemizes.
$ 200
