Apple iPhone 6; poo poo?

First, I heard on the local radio that it only takes moderate pressure in the pocket to bend the iPhone 6 out of shape, and now there's a headline that there's a problem with the new phones crashing with the iOS 8.0.1 update.

Apple needs to get the bugs out with testing, before stuff like this hits the market.

a delay in launch means epic failure in this industry.

they would rather put it out there and handle all the complaints on the back end vs delaying the launch and watching their stock prices crash on the failure.
they sold 10m of those stupid things in 3 days.

i hate apple won't buy any of their products.

on the flip side you won't find all the bugs till you do stress testing with the system which is what happens.

as for the manufactoring part i have not idea what they are going to do. i would be ticked off to no end if my 300 iphone plus 6 bent.

The OS crash is not that big a deal, but the phone getting bent from cheapness is a monumental goof for an expensive product. They''ll probably offer cheap aluminum cases for those who bend theirs?

I was thinking about finally giving up the blackberry and going with the IPhone-6 when my current plan expires as I like the idea of a smart watch to go with it. However having seen the watch......it looks like something you might give a 9 year old girl for her birthday.

no idea. my wife is switching from apple back to android as soon as she can.

samsung is suppose to release a foldable phone next year so i am waiting for that to come out.
that is exactly what i need and what i want.

if they can come out with that they will destroy everyone else more so if they can put it in a 4k resolution.

I don't think Apple has poor designs or functionality as a whole or their products wouldn't be so popular. Simplicity in a sophisticated product with added capabilities, has a broad appeal from low tech to nerds. But, I do believe being a little too greedy and complacent can damage a brand/image pretty quickly.

I thought the bigger sizes, increased camera mp's and OS update would give them the market edge, but Samsung is probably throwing a board/shareholder party over these blunders.

The funniest thing about the bend is that it's actually the opposite of because it was cheap. Apparently the issue is Apple went with:

1. An aluminum body. This was done to give it a "higher end" feel and I believe is more expensive than a plastic body, not cheaper. But Aluminum is more easily maleable
2. The rounded edges. This was done apparently to thin out the device and make it more comfortable in the hand, but a rounded body is more suspetible to bending than a angular one.

Also, is this happening with the 6 or the 6 plus? I thought I read that this is more of an issue with the larger 6+

Either way, definitely an unfortunate issue that you would think Apple should've caught before it went to market.

As to iOS 8, I've not had any issues with it thus far.

It's the 5.5 and 6 plus that bend. That seems kind of dumb not to have known aluminum flex's easily without alloy mixed in or at least have tested a few beta models. I remember certain vehicle models, like the old Land Rovers, were susceptible to easy dents from being made of a soft aluminum with no memory.

i'm more of an Android fan, but it doesn't really look to me like there's any problem with the phone other than that it generated this meme.

and seriously, why do people not get belt clips for their phones? my Galaxy S4 is in showroom condition. put it in your back pocket and ****ing sit on it? come on.

i work near a college and walk a lot. i usually see hundreds of kids walking around and holding the damned phone in their hands. just put it in the ****ing waist clip, and there's no problem. in the one video i've seen, the dude is like straining to bend the ****er. seriously, WTF?

seriously, though, this one is pretty funny :

and also cool, because Dali is awesome.

I don't think it is smart for people to put a phone or a digital audio player in their back pocket to begin with.

As far as Apple's issue with their build construction of the iPhone 6 line, yeah, I would be concerned and cynical when I read a repair store give a practical, but altogether hysterical solution that involves "bending it back into place."

With iOS 8, as with any .0 update, there are a ton of issues. Luckily I haven't run into them. As far as the most recent update is concerned which was pulled from Apple, all I can say is dear God was that a terrible update. If it bricks a substantial number of phones, it's a terrible update.

Actually you can get an "otter" case for most well known brands of phones. My Blackberry Z10 is still in show room condition after a year and a half.

i got the stock Verizon case and holster :

works great. only time i've taken it out was to try to fix my old SD card, which the phone decided to eat. that's also my only complaint about the device. great phone. it's like having access to the modern Library of Alexandria at all times on a device that is the size of my high school Casio scientific calculator. which also is in a case, still works, and is used daily in the lab.

because i don't put that **** in my pocket and sit on it, that's why.

i love my high school Casio calculator, BTW. we've been through a lot together. bros for life.

There are loads of problems with iOS and the iPhone, but most are never told about in the media due to the medias love for Apple. But these latest ones are so bad that they cant keep them quite.. hell the usual suspects in the tech world, CNET and The Verge were some of the last to run these stories and Engadget still has not really told anything.

Off the top of my head we have the following issues with the iPhone 6 and 6+

1) Bendgate.. it is a clear manufacturing and design flaw as the "bend" happens in the same place.
2) Wifi issues as usual with iOS updates. This was an issue in BETA and BETA testers complained and pointed it out.. Apple did nothing.
3) iMessenger issues.. really flaky according to reports.
4) Battery drain issues, especially on older models... and considering battery is pathetic already this is a major problem.
5) App crashes have exploded with the update, which is someone what to be expected, but not in the amount being reported. iOS already has the worst record on app performance and stability and iOS 8 has not helped.
6) The Camera software is buggy as well..a software update will fix the issues but question is when and if that update will ever come.
7) 8.01 update bricked phones basically.
8) Requiring 6GB of space on your phone to update is beyond idiotic. Sure you can connect it to iTunes, but thanks to Apple more and more people actually dont own a PC with iTunes on it.
9) Parts of iCloud are pretty much useless for Macs until Apple updates its Mac software.. they actually updated iCloud for Windows first..

This has been a catastrophic launch by Apple and their "quality" halo has been burst surely with these phones. Sure there are plenty of defenders out there, and they are busy on the net that is for sure, but there is only so much crap you can cover over with lame excuses.

A phone should not bend just because you put it in your front pocket. Back pocket, maybe.. but front. hell no. This is a clear design flaw and part manufacturing flaw as all the competition does not have these problems including the "almost full metal" HTC M7 and M8. If they had these problems at a consistent basis, like the iPhone 6 and 6+, then it would be out in the media faster than you can get your pizza delivered. The media are so Apple biased that they will do anything to help Apple in hurting their competitors. The wall to wall coverage of the release of this phone is the proof of this bias.. it commands a whopping 12% of the world market and yet it got full day coverage on many news channels and live coverage on tech sites.. Only Samsung might get some of that treatment for the few hours that they are presenting something... but a whole day or more.. hell no... and Samsung sits on a massive portion of the world market, outselling Apple easily.

the anti apple people are as bad as the pro apple fanboys. it's just a phone. it's big, long, and thin, and made of aluminum. thin aluminum bends when you don't buy a holster and choose to sit on it instead. buy a damned holster, and take care of your damned phone.

There is no "5.5". There's the 6 and 6+.

The 6 is a 4.7" screen

The 6 plus is a 5.5" screen

Oops.. I misread the article. It's only the 6 plus that they mention.

Don't the other smart phone makers have similar issues, like the Galaxy or HTC?

I've had a small flip phone for years with a leather holster that I attach to the outside of my front pants pocket. Never dropped, lost or sat on my phone, and don't see what's so hard about a carrier?

apparently, a phone holster gets in the way of consumer dissatisfaction.

I call it the "slob factor". People are simply too lazy to actually put something into a protective case... lol

There is no smartphone maker called Galaxy. :)

And no. Sure there are issues, but none are "phone breaking" and on such a scale/consistency as these for Apple.

I've got the i5 and love it. Bought an Otterbox to protect the damn thing and never have I had a prob. iOS 8 works great.

I always wait a month or two for upgrading a phone that just comes out. Without doubt there is always problems.
