I've used a Logitech Wireless Trackball M570 for a long time and am recently experiencing a problem.

When I hold down a button, to highlight text for example, the mouse acts as though I'm frequently letting go of the button and clicking it again. Sometimes this will happen several times a second and can result in only part of the text I wanted to be highlighted, or whole sections of text moved around. Every time I make a post on DP or other forums I get the 'duplicet post' error message from the board, even-though I only clicked one time, because the mouse is reporting 2 or more clicks. Also, in video-games, the mouse will act as though I've clicked a button when I haven't clicked anything at all.

I also use a Razer Nostromo and a Logitech wireless keyboard and am not experiencing problems with either of those. I have replaced the battery in the mouse but that didn't improve the problem. I've also checked the mouse driver and it's up to date (not that it has many updates anyway).

Any help is appreciated. Windows7 Home Premium fully updated, Chrome fully updated with no addons, current firewall/anti-viris.

Jerry:did you try their website? Logitech

I think you should try a different mouse, Jerry. And if you don't have the same problem, then alas I think you have to accept that your poor mouse is terminally ill and should be put out of its misery.

I had to do that with a Logitech wireless mouse not long ago.

As in buy a new mouse? I need to use the roller-ball style due to a wrist problem, I can't use a mouse that has to be moved on a pad.

I would like to do everything I can to fix it before spending money on a replacement.

Yes, and I haven't found trouble-shooting procedures for clicking errors.
Try using the telephone support in that link; it will ask you to have certain info ready.

Thanks but my experience with tech supports motivates me to buy a new unit long before placing a call.

This thread is intended to be that 'call' for the actual answers, not to get references to other sources who may have answers. If you don't know what the root problem might actually be or how I might fix it, I thank you for your effort but you don't have the info I'm looking for.

From the Logitech forums:
From the description of your problem it sounds like a defective micro switch inside the trackball. We should perform some troubleshooting steps first. Please perform the following steps on your M570. Remove the battery from the unit. While the battery is out, press the left and right mouse button repeatedly for approximately twenty seconds. Once this is complete, re-insert the battery in to the device and try it again. If the problems persists test the trackball on another computer if there is one available. If the problem persists after that I would recommend contacting Customer Care in your region for further assistance and a possible warranty replacement.
I followed these steps and the problem persists. It seems I have a defective micro switch. This mouse is well past warranty so I'll just have to replace it.

Thank you, everyone, for your time. Computer problems drive me insane.

It's an old mouse experiencing a mechanical problem, not one of software.

Update: Bought a new mouse, the problem is gone. I'm glad it wasn't a service connection or bad USB issue.
