What do you think about the new Firefox 29.0.1 interface? It's the first upgrade to the actual look of the browser in quite awhile.

I don't normally like change, especially if it works well and having to figuring out some of the new design. But this look is pretty nice and the changes aren't overly dramatic. Seems a little smoother in it's operation also.

I just updated before coming in here. But I must say it does look interesting. ;)

It's mostly a design upgrade- with a tad more options added. But I was getting some jerky screen behavior before that's cleared up with this new version.

Did you used to get that when you went to certain sites? Just curious.

Yes, mostly here at DP using the scrolling screen 'Spy' function along with playing Media Player, listening to tunes at the same time. Seemed to cause the scrolling to be herky jerky and the mouse arrow would be slow, sluggish and unresponsive. I'd have to close everything and restart, or sometimes reboot, to clear it up for awhile. I figured it was a lack of resources but it's only been happening recently and I've got a fast PC.

Sounds like what I have been experiencing. I hope I see improvements when I go to sites and I can start scrolling instead of waiting for the page to fully stabilize; it's got to be Firefox.

My sentiments exactly that it was Firefox all along. They've been on a terror with updates the last year, and I think one of the last ones was causing the problems, because right now this new one is smooth so far.

I haven't used Firefox in quite a while. The browsers I use the most are Chrome, Opera and Avant. Avant is excellent for doing research, Opera has a very convenient user interface with all the mouse gestures, you can do most browsing with one hand. For light web browsing Chrome just seems to be faster than other web browsers.

It certainly looks better (although, it's not quite looking fantastic with black windows), but it's philosophy is still to draw everything rather big.

I've tried Chrome and am not a Google fan. Though their search engine is unmatched, the rest of their software is invasive and sneaky. But if I had figured it was Firefox causing all my stability problems I would've switch for awhile.

I find this new Firefox has even crisper web page graphics and fonts.

I think I'm going to try it. As I mentioned before, I haven't used Firefox in quite a while. It might be time to give it another trial to see whether it's been significantly improved.

The Chrome claim was always speed and simplicity but I find Firefox blistering on page loads.

See, I abandoned FireFox because I felt it was clunky and slow. Probably means they are roughly equal.

Some of that can be altered by using OpenDNS and a few other network tweaks. The last few versions of Firefox have been problematic but I've liked Mozilla products since Netscape came out.

I must admit that I do sometimes get that eerie feeling about google.

I found out when I tried using their 'free voice mail' service. It allowed the PC to notify me of when I was getting call and text requests, while I was online. And they're easier to read than listen to sometimes. But I started getting unrequested solicitation and found Google was saving all these messages and using other personal information. They build a profile of your interests and habits for advertisers to utilize and for the gov't to sift thru. Half the Web uses Google Analytics tracking cookies to follow you online.

They act all friendly with all their free software and service when they're actually building a file on you.

i still miss the original firefox running on windows 98.since i think it was firefox 2.0 or 3.0,i couldnt stand it,and opted for opera instead.

i grew up using ie 6 and older,so its my preferred interface, the interface itself works perfect even today,i just cant understand why they rushed to change what worked, when all it needed was a facelift.

It's always about planned obsolescence in order to force people to buy the latest. I originally started out with Windows 95/DOS and had used 3.1 with IE2. My favorite OS was Win98 lite with Netscape 6/7. I literally wanted to cry when I realized that I couldn't access certain parts of the web without switching to XP. They were never going to make anything backwards compatible.

i literaly have a win98 retro gaming tower,i use for old games.i tried a few times on the internet,it can handle new internet stuff, but its newer browsers retrofitted in code to fit 98,so it ends up looking like win 3.1 in terms of pixelation.

The problem with running the old OS is finding compatible drivers for the newer hardware, it just doesn't exist. They made damn sure people were not going to stick with the out dated software. The shame of it is that all they really did was add a bunch of options, code and security holes. You could browse online, print, chat, text, email, listen to video/music files, play games and do just about everything you do now on a PC. Granted the graphics have improved dramatically and speed on information transfer, but a lot of that could've been upgraded into those existing systems. Some of those old late 80's-early 90's PC's still run, because they weren't made so cheap.
