Anybody here have any experience with Chromecast? A lady in my office wants to get Netflix, but doesn't have a gaming console and isn't going to get one. I think Chromecast would be a good option for her.

At 35 bucks it's a pretty good bet. That being said, I still will heavily vouch for the Roku, which can be had for just a bit more at 50 bucks @ 720p and 60 bucks @ 1080p (Roku Products | Roku Streaming Player).

I love my Roku, but I got my mother a Chromecast for Christmas. She says she really likes having it and it works very well for her. Unlike the Roku, however, I believe you do need a "smart device" (smartphone, tablet, etc.).

She has a I Pad.

Yeah, you do need another device (including a computer, not just tablet or smartphone) to move content from that to the tv.

I use a Roku, but I imagine its a similar experience, if so, its good

also check out plex, i use it to pull media from my PC to the roku.

Here's an idea of what the difference will be. They are testing the Roku 3, which is a bit of a strange comparison (it costs quite a bit more than the Chromecast), but the OS experience is similar (minus the "search through all apps" feature, etc.). Essentially the verdict is that the Chromecast is very barebones, a bit slower, and limited in video quality (720p), but where it is a danger to the existing market is its price point. At 35 bucks, it is a potential bargain for newcomers in the streaming marketplace.

$35 is about the most she wants to pay so it looks like Chromecast is the leader in the clubhouse.

Hopefully all goes well. In case she wants this, HBO Go is now available on Chromecast. HBO Go (using your cable company's account) is quite a bit more extensive than HBO's normal on-demand service. Quite a bit handy.

Looking at Plex just confused me some more. Thank you. ;)

you install it on your computer. you set it to a folder and choose the media type (music, movies, tv, etc). you go to the roku channel store and install the plex channel. the rest is automatic.

its not that hard

Chromecast is US only.. grumble grumble. Hope they start releasing it internationally soon, because the idea is rather brilliant and with that price..
