10 bucks says that the U.S. government will first strongarm app stores into no longer making this app available for purchase and then another 10 bucks says that the U.S. government will make such apps for commercial use illegal.

Another 10 bucks then says that the U.S. government will claim it's doing it to prevent terrorism and another 10 bucks says that who they really want to stop are drug criminals.

I would case it's encrypted (which is the only way it can possibly be secure) in which case the Government would likely just break the encryption. They already do this with foreign government's emails and communications.

Quietly breaking the encryption would cause much less of an uproar.

Yeah but they'd have to crack it for each person they want to tap, it'd be a massive undertaking. This app at least makes it a lot harder.

I think we're foolish to think the government isn't way out in front of this stuff. If they have a phone number and want to listen to your calls, I'm sure they have the technology to clone your phone and simply eavesdrop...encryption or not.

You feel they think their software will defeat the US govt or Chinese?

That's a good point.

They could just store the encrypted data and break it when they want it though.

I don't know. Possibly. It will be a headache for them at least, depending on how well the creators of the app did. I've spoken to decryptors for the DoD and they are brilliant.
