Disney closes LucasArts.

Nope. I'd wager closer to poser than connoisseur . You could argue that GF is garbage because : it's stupidly easy, there is no action and it's all clicking nonsense that a monkey strapped to a computer could manage to get through the entire game, People who play games like battlefront aren't looking for humor, by the way, and most gamers aren't either, rather interested in things like control/immersion/replayability/graphics/sound etc.. By the way, what exactly is "intelligent" about GF?

What a bunch of verbal masturbation. Was it good for you?

The game is so stupid and easy a chimp could complete it. it has no replayability whatsoever. The characters are stupid, forgettable props and not even remotely believable. The puzzles are illogical, simplistic and often little more than trial and error. There is no strategy or skill required in the entire game, makiing it about as interactive as your average screensaver. I could go on.

There is a reason why there are different genres of games, because people play them with different tastes and desires. How creative can a simulator game be when the entire premise is copying something with as high fidelity as possible, for instance? You should avoid not just gamers, but games in general, as books are far cheaper way to get what you so desire or rate highly in video games.

You have done an excellent job epitomizing everything that is aesthetically wrong with gamers. For one thing, this self-contradictory old criticism of adventure games, complaining that the puzzles dont make sense or are trial and error, is just sour grapes. People say this when they just haven't got the chops for puzzle games.

Aventure games are the only games with real artistic merit, precisely because they are good for the same reason literature is good. They add a new dimension of interactivity to literature. It's a true and meaningful artistic development, which is unfortunately made to play second fiddle to mindless shooter games. If you want to shoot something, get a real gun. At least you're developing a practical skill.

Smart games, just like smart literature, are never going to appeal to the masses. But thankfully, there is a growing independent adventure game development community that still produces the only good type of game, like LucasArts and Sierra used to. I'll gladly leave Star Wars and Halo to the gamers

Not surprisingly, you missed the entire point. Perhaps you were too busy with all your self aggrandizement and puffery. The point is, people like/play games for different reasons, and they have different tastes, just like in music/art/film, etc. The fact you think your "favorite" is the best is no more relevant than those who think games like GF is garbage for reasons I already listed.

ROFLMAO. What were you saying about sour grapes?

SW: Battlefront series weren't good games you have zero gamer credibility with me.

Wookies, throwing lightsabers and flying around in Tie Interceptors. What's not to love?

And yes, the #1 thing about Battlefront: SMUSHING REBEL SCUM WITH AT-ATs!

DIE REBEL SCUM.

FYI, BFII is now on Steam.

Disney is officially run by idiots. Closing Lucasarts ? What is to gain from doing such a foolish move?

Reduced exposure. I understand why they did it. I just think it was a waste.

Game developing costs big money. Millions of dollars. And after Disney paid billions for Star Wars, they want to recoup their investment as fast as possible. Millions sunk into games that take years to hit market is not a way of doing that. Licensing fees are however.

Guy and Vendur had this argument 30 years ago.

Actually, this is not real surprising to anybody that understands business.

LucasArts has been in trouble for years now. About half of their games do OK, the other half are generally flops. And for the most part, they only have one real long-term commodity, the name "Star Wars". If not for that one name, they would have failed decades ago, along with other early video game companies. Like Acclaim, Atari and Infocom.

The company is not "dead", simply stripped until it remains a licensing agent for the Lucas film franchises. Disney already has it's own development company, so there really was no need for them to maintain 2 of them.

Good analysis:thumbs:

so are the developers at lucas arts out of the job or will they be assimilated into Disney own development team

I am sure the developers who are real innovators and creators have a new home at Disney Interactive. The rest (mostly administrative and the like) will likely have to move on and find more employment. Talented creators, designers and programmers are always in demand. But like in most other businesses, there are 10 "other employees" for every one of those.

After all, those that have worked on Star Wars programs for years are invaluable for their experience and the continuity that they bring. But for the rest of the staff, they are easily replaceable. The accountants, the lawyers, the advertising staff, technical support, etc.

Look at any professional sports team to see what I mean. In order to keep 20 or so guys in business, there are hundreds of others that do the day to day tasks.
