And...in the number one spot...drum roll, please..........

1. Windows 8 Professional (operating system)

With its biggest OS rollout since Windows 95, Microsoft seeks to embrace all things computing with a one-size-fits-all operating system. Love or hate the new Start screen and app storefront, look beyond those polarizing elements, and you’ll find substantial performance improvements, numerous updates to critical features, and a largely successful effort to retain compatibility with desktop applications while also fulfilling the needs of mobile apps. Windows 8 has already spawned new designs and all sorts of hardware experiments. This bold step forward won’t appeal to old-schoolers, but its sleek, modern look just might win over a new generation of users that Microsoft must attract to remain relevant.

Good choice, PC World.

I found some performance statistics for gaming which is what I mainly do, the frame rate was either a little bit down or it tanked so I will not be upgrading anytime soon till it's better optimized for gaming.

For gaming, it's all about the drivers. Nvidia has released two sets of drivers since Win8 was released. The latest one showed a 38% increase in framerates for FC3.

Note: That is every release and it's still going to take sometime for them to stay on the same level. Far Cry 3 is a new game so they are still optimizing an whether you run 7 or 8 it will probably increase by 38% maybe a little less on 8, that's also with the most powerful card they sell. I wish I had that card but I don't, I see performance increases of maybe 1%-5% if I'm lucky due to my card.

I wonder how much microsoft paid them to be put as #1.

LOL!!!

I don't know, but it's kind of funny that MS can pay more than Apple...them being the richest company in the world and all.

Odd.. my games run better under Windows 8 than Windows 7. /shrug.

Doubt that... in fact I would believe the opposite. The list has a lot of Apple products.. hell all of them. Of them all basically, only the Mac Book Pro with Retina display deserves to be there and even that is borderline.

Put away the conspiracy theories, Pet. We know you hate apple even more than Americans

But I too have found performance better in win8 and it is much easier to shut down and prevent unwanted threads from running which probably also helps. I found a 5 frame(ish) increase in Flight Simulator X. Which is significant considering that getting 30 frames is doing well.

I dont hate Americans... I dislike the American right.. big difference. As for Apple... they are like the used car salesman to me... trying to sell me and people in general a lie and that is something I dislike.

Gaw aint Flight Simulator X like 10 years old?

I found it here, Sleeping Dogs worries me since that is one of my favourite games.

Its from October 26th.. in fact the whole thing was written long before that. Since then there has been patches to Windows 8 and driver upgrades. They should redo the whole thing imo.

Gaw aint Flight Simulator X like 6 (ftfy) years old?

It is, unfortunately it's the best simulator available. It's still being developed for, just not by Microsoft.

I'm more interested in Redray, even if it is in its infancy.

#7, the Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs, I have one, I can stand testament to how great my CPU is. Good choice for a top ten spot.
