Do any of you guys play Minecraft? I'm relatively new at it, and only have experience on XBOX 360 edition, but I suppose it would be fun to set up cooperative worlds or PvP servers.

For those who do not know, Minecraft is a pixelated game where everything in the world is in blocky form. You must build a home, mine, hunt, farm, and fight monsters to generally succeed in your world. There is no goal (although many consider defeating the Enderdragon as beating the game) except to increase your standard of living as much as possible and to have fun.

What do you guys think?

My kids are obsessed with it. I bought it back when it was in alpha and got bored with it pretty quickly and then my kids discovered it and it has been their game of choice for nearly six months now.

My wife got into it. I banned it from all computers I've purchased. Other games banned in my house:

World of Warcraft
Sims
Grand Theft Auto (in all its forms)

Really? You banned it?
I can't blame you if you did, but that isn't really a liberal act.

Me? Back in Oct.
I recently tried the demo.
Now I am having weird dreams about blocks.
Inserting them. Tearing them down.
But all done in my normal dream like settings of reality.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I confess to having managed to avoid it thus far. I love gaming, but the videos I've seen didn't make it look that interesting.

I was obsessed with Minecraft for a while, once I got over my fixation I went for a drive and was shocked to see round sheep.

My son and his buddy (they're both 10) are obsessed with it.

Fortunately our desktop doesn't have enough memory to run the game.

For those of you who do play it, how much memory do you have on your PC and what are the other system requirements to play the game without the annoying lagging.

We can't be friends.

Anyway, I play Minecraft all the time. Mostly on PvP servers. Madlib, if you want, I could PM you the IP address. We could kick ass.

And for the record, I tested only 43% addicted to minecraft...

Meh, I'm not really experienced with the computer version. Might be a while before I am.

I have 8gb on my laptop and it uses maybe 3 at most.

As for other requirements, I have a quad core processor, but I don't know if it helps or not.

What strategies do you use generally single player? PvP?

I've only played single player on XBOX or multiplayer with the HD cord with friends. The XBOX version is slightly different, and I hope that they include some of the better aspects of the computer version into the XBOX edition. XBOX edition doesn't have villagers, sieges, Eyes of Ender, teleporting Ender Pearls, the End, Blazes, Magma Cubes, Nether Fortresses, Emeralds, Enchanting Tables, potion shit, or Golems. I desperately want Golems. They look epic.

The Xbox version is okay, but is complete crap against the PC version.

For PVP, your best bet is underground.

The people who introduced me to Minecraft said XBOX was better. I kind of like the crafting interface more, it's a little easier (or more idiot-proof, depending on your point of view). I do want more PC mobs introduced.

The Xbox does have a more friendly user interface, but with all the websites out there, I don't think getting into the PC would be too difficult.

Also, unlimited Nether FTW.

Just for the record, XBOX has all this now, or at least most of it.

Since it runs on Java a fast processor is a requirement, although the newest version of the game does have video acceleration on some video cards.

I'd treat it like I'd treat any video game, but the video card aspect doesn't need to be as powerful.

Also, I was addicted to it for quite a while I still go back now and again but not nearly as time consuming as it was before.

I played MineCraft for awhile - haven't for over a year though - I mostly built stuff.

Now, however, I'm semi-obsessed with a game called StarMade, which is basically minecraft...in space...
It's in Alpha at the moment though, so it's a bit buggy and incomplete, but I still like it.

I would be game!

My son got me hooked on Minecraft a few months ago, I've only got the version for my laptop and play it in my spare time. He tried to get me playing survival mode, but that didn't really do it for me.

As a former lego/ building block kid. . . I've used it mostly to build things in creative mode.

Damn, that's pretty incredible looking!

I might have to check that game out at some point.

It's currently in alpha, and the client is free, with optional purchase.
Damn good for an alpha though.
