I was just curious. I personally love the game.

Sometimes in the past. I was more of a competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! player.

I have never gotten the appeal of those type of games, particularly with the endless need to buy more and more cards to have a chance of winning. I tried Magic but it was not for me.

Oh my Lord, it's been a very long time (probably 15 years) since I was involved in that sort of activity. Played rather constantly in college ('92-'94) but the interest seriously waned afterwards as we all went our separate ways.

As nerdy as I am, I'm not quite that bad. I still hover above people who play D&D into their 40s and, of course, Trekkies.

You need to EMBRACE the Nerd inside, Gipper. Most of the truly successful people I know are nerds. As for those of us who still choose to game into our fully adult and nearly middle-aged years.... It's generally a very different type of gaming than what the high schoolers and college kids do. It's more about imagination, long-term goals, and is often not D&D, but rather one of the more adult-oriented games like Vampire or Shadowrun.

As for the Trekkies.... I am more than honored to say that I stand on the next step down from them. I'm a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism.

Magic is fun. I usually play sealed deck where you get a set of cards for that specific tournament, that way the playing field is leveled and you don't have to spend ridiculous money on cards.

I find that I fare better when people have went out and bought the new cards and I turn around and buy some original or older generation cards for a fraction of the price and still do decently well.

I played in high school back when it first came out (right around when 3rd edition came out). After about 4 years, I sold them off and quit. A friend of mine had me play a few years back and it had changed so much I was put off and never went back.

As a fan of the Might and Magic series, #7 and #8 in the series have a bastardized version of MTG called "Arcomage". If you win all the games around the world in varying objectives (starting/ending tower, resources, etc.) you get a bunch of crap in a treasure chest.

I think that's as close as I've come.

I played a ton back in high school and early college. I had probably several thousand cards at one point. My interest in it started to drop off in college as I got busy with other stuff. I still play D&D on a regular basis though, so I still have the majority of my geek cred.
