I bought the expansion pack for $19.95 last week. I was getting a little tired of recreating new characters to play on Skyrim. I like the package, but in order to make it work, you have to create a new character and start all over. Well, I think you do because that was the way things worked out if you ever played Fallout with the expansion pack.

You have the choice of joining a pack of vampire hunters or joining the vampire clan, of which I did. I'm not so sure I like the vampire perks, though because when you take the shape of a vampire lord, similar to your transformation as a werewolf, you are stuck in 3rd person, and with your vantage point, it is hard to aim your killing spells. This package has new creatures as well as new weapons. I especially like the crossbow, yet it's hard to find bolts for it if you don't become a vampire hunter.

I bought it, cross bows are cool, but the vampire lord feature is awesome and presents a new challenge.

That's odd, you didn't have to do that with any of the expansions for Oblivion. That seems pretty ridiculous. Perhaps they did that because the add-ons are designed low-level characters and you're generally exceeding level 50 by the time you complete the core? I dunno...

Is it worth it?

I got both dawnguard and hearthfire.... both are very cool.

I didn't have to recreate a character to use either...I used my level 87 dark elf

building my own home was pretty easy though, as i had like 175k in gold... might be cooler to be low level ,broke, and have to work for the money to build the place.

You don't have to start over to play Dawnguard.
I already beat the main quest with my main character.

It's a pretty cool, although it was somewhat easy.

you play video games thrilla? never would have guessed...

Darn it! I blew away my Breton character, and I was pretty high up there. I dumped all my old saved games. I'm playing as an ugly high elf. I do like that cute little vampire chick that follows you around, and she seems pretty indestructible, just like Mjoll the Lioness. She even sits down and rests while I'm out and about, while all the others stand patiently while I sleep.

I don't understand all the vampire perks and am learning them as I go. At certain times, they are not always available. You have to be extremely hungry for blood before they all come back, but this vampire can go out in daylight, unlike the Oblvion vampire.

I bought the Oblivion and Fallout expansion packages, but you could either install the old package or the expansion packages. I didn't understand the procedure so installed the original package and thought I would later load up the expansion packages, opting to play the original game before the new stuff. In that case, the new stuff didn't apply, and I did have to start over.

I love the new DLC pack. Here's some info that I have discovered playing it.

It is possible now to have 2 followers, provided you already have Serana, the vampire girl first. Now, if you have another follower, Serana won't follow you, but will ask you to get rid of him or her because she either doesn't trust the follower I already have, or "three's a crowd." It would appear in the rush to get the DLC out, that the other followers were never programmed to recognize that Serana was there, so they will follow you if you have Serana.

Another glitch is where you decide to buy a house in Whiterun, you can no longer get the alchemy laboratory installed. Now, the choice is there, so I purchase it for 500 Septims, but it never appears in the house. In fact, thinking I made a mistake the first time, I purchased it again, and it never appeared in the home.

I got the Dawnguard pack. Playing through it at level 36 is a breeze. If you start a new character then the vampires start attacking you at around level 9, and you get the call to go to Dawnguard soon after that. Vampire attacks would even interrupt and mess up unrelated quests. So I went to Dawnguard at level 10. It is a lot more challenging that way, lemme tell ya, but so far it is do-able. The cross bow is waaay more important at level 10; it hardly even matters at level 36. Lycanthrophy, which you pick up on the Companion quest line, is highly recommended for the Dawnguard quest line because werewolves are immune to infection by vampires. Otherwise you keep getting infected, and the ability to go beast helps at certain points. If you've already done Companions and got cured of lycanthropy you can get it back for the asking from the female werewolf Companion, Aerna, or whatever her name is, but only if you have the Dawnguard pack.

Ya, I have it on PS3 so I got ****ED
