GW2 is going to be released very soon and theres not nearly as much hype about it as I thought there would be...
Trying to find comprehensive beta reviews are tough...I want to take a look at it but I am loathe to piss away another
50...60 bucks on a bad game....Aion, Rift, Tera...have left a bad taste in my mouth for jumping on the early game bandwagons

Patience Danielson, wait 1 month after it comes out then read reviews.

Yeah no more rushing for me.....I like Secret World...it has some rough edges though....but so does all of them at first

so far almost everyone who has played the beta loved it.the first guild wars was epic but was too short, making gameplay not last long.

id definately wait though until a month after, not only will you get to see true reviews, but you wont have to suffer game overloads crashes and bugs(although arenanet has always been quick with bugs, they nearly rewrote sections of the first gw every week to handle bugs and exploits.)

Guild Wars doesn't get the hype because it doesn't have a name-brand backer, a built-in player base due to previous gaming lore, and - of course - it's being overshadowed by Mists of Pandaria, an x-pac release of World of Warcraft.

You know what? That's fine. Guild Wars gets terrific word of mouth advertising. Guild Wars was a phenomenal game, and I am completely looking forward to GW2.

I dont know why you said it doesnt have a big name....Guildwars was kinda big I thought ...I liked it...but the movement of WOW just blew it away the overall mechanics of wow....but now im told guildwars2 will have the movement of wow and the pvp "supposedly" will be better....Im taking beertws advice...holding back some and If it tickles my fancy grab it.....

I agree with the notion of holding off and waiting for real reviews. I am able to be patient. In the meantime, I'm playing around with a fun little F2P game called C9.

I've never played WoW...and I never will.

No denying wow is a great game...was better but its by far the oldest running out there

Well when Economic doomsday comes and the power goes out, and water stops running, at least I won't miss playing these crappy games. You've got to.......

....always look on the bright side of life.

As much as I liked the first Guild Wars, I own all the expansions, I refuse to ever buy any MMO until it's been in the wild for a minimum of 3-6 months. That gives them time to work out the inevitable launch kinks and for the idiots who are just there to rush to end-game (which isn't a big concern in GW) to get the hell out of the way. Then I can come in and enjoy the game on my own terms.

I'll get GW2 somewhere around Christmas, probably.

Sounds like a plan...I dont order to get the endgame fast...Im just an optimist and an impatient sucker...so I jump in and get my wallet a bit lighter...this time im not with Gw2 and it will probably turn out to be the best ever....see theres that optimism again lol

If GW2 is the same as GW, you can reach max level within a couple of hours. Essentially, you start at end-level and the game and endgame are essentially the same. You stop getting levels after level 20, but you keep getting skills.

I believe its going to be a totally different game than the first GWs....

Okay. I went ahead a got GW2. It was kind of a bitch finding it because ArenaNet had stopped digital sales and resupply of retail outlets. But I was able to find it at an out-of-the-way Best Buy. I had to drive 30 miles to get there, but I was going that way already so no biggie.

First of all, let me say that I played GW only once and that was because it was free when I got set up with NCSoft to play Aion. After about an hour I uninstalled the game because of crappy graphics and horrendously long load times. Basically, I came into GW2 blind. Not knowing anything about it.

So...GW2...first impression: I like it. I have a good system so I can crank up the graphics to the max and this game is gorgeous. The animations are great. The world is huge. I really like the skills being more dependent upon the weapon used than your level. I like the great variety of storylines that depend upon how you set your toon's "story". The game promotes cooperation between players by not penalizing people who just jump in and help others.

I haven't played all the classes yet. I have a level 12 Human Necromancer, a level 12 Human Warrior and a level 5 Charr Elementalist. Out of those three, I like the Warrior the most because of the huge number of weapons (and therefore skills) available for use.

What was kind of cool was going into a level 16 area...jumping into an event...standing back and using a longbow with my warrior. Got lots of XP and lots of really good drops. Didn't die because of the higher level melee players taking agro.

I think I'll be playing this game for quite some time.

Oh..and no subscription fees is a big plus.

Glad you like it. I was on the fence (like you were, I assume), but after doing some research and going on the GW forums to get opinions from people who play it, I've decided for sure that I'm going to get it soon. It may be this coming week, may be the next, may be next month...but I will get it. It's only been out 2 weeks so I don't see an absolute need to rush out and be one of the first for the sake of being one of the firsts. I'm afraid it may get bogged down if I do it, as it happened with WoW on release. I got WoW on release date and rolled on a popular server to begin with. The server was down more often than it was up, and when it was up, it was laggy and choppy as all get-out. I've decided to skip that stage of GW2, because it's bound to happen, especially since ArenaNet really isn't known for stability on game servers.

Sure seems fun though. I'm kinda torn between what class I wanna try first. My gut says ranger, but mezzers look hella fun.

I've run into log on queues in other games, but not in GW2. In fact, they have a system I've never seen before. At times of peak usage, it seems, the game will move me to an "overflow server" temporarily. I can still play normally, though. The only lag I've experienced is due to my own internet connection, since I have problems even loading a page in my browser when that happens. I've never dealt with Arenanet before this game so I don't know what problems they've had in the past. But I haven't experienced any with this game.

All of the classes I've tried have been real good...Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer and Engineer. Right now, my new favorite is the Engineer with the Mesmer a close second.

I'm on the server "Ehmry Bay" and I have 3 toons: Gloryah In Excelsis, Glorybee Sting and Glorycee Saw. All three are Humans.

Look me up when you get in.

i just bought the game today and id recomend waiting a few months, its crashed 3 times during the character creation screen, but when it crashed it instantly powered down my computer.it stopped doing that once i got in game, but my fps was running around 5 at minimum settings, and im using an alienware m11x r1,with a 1 gig video card,i meet or heavily exceed the minimum requirements, yet run at ultra low fps,a sign that arenanet only made the game for an extremely small number of video cards, like was done for diablo 3 and skyrim.

like diablo 3 and skyrim, youll have to wait til they better support more cards or video card companies better support the game.also the game glitches quite often and load times between areas are long.

however lag is practically non exsistent which was awesome, guess i just need to wait for them to offer better videocard support.

Hmmm...

I've never had any problems like that, but then I have a pretty good desktop system that I built. But my son plays on the $800.00 laptop I got him for college. It has an i3 cpu and Intel 4000 graphics and plays on minimum graphics just fine.

PC

The following are the minimum requirements given at release.
Component Minimum System Requirements
Operating System Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Better
Processor Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 or better
Memory 2 GB RAM
Hard drive 25 GB available HDD space
Graphics card NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI Radeon™ X1800, Intel HD 3000 or better
(256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
Internet connection Broadband Internet Connection
Input Keyboard and mouse

I got a warning that says my gfx card is insufficient. I still run the game perfectly fine.

Having said that, it's hard to get into it, since the gameplay is awful IMO. It's reminiscent of too many Atari games I've played, such as Neverwinter Nights. A fun one-player game, but for an MMO it's clunky as hell.

beerftw, is this your laptop?

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.7GHz
Nvidia 335M 1GB
500GB HD
8GB DDR3 1333MHz
Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

If so, then your graphics is not sufficient. Check it at this site: Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech

close but mine has the 320 gb ssd, mine is also different from most notebooks with the 335 in that it is actually a video card withit own ram, rather than just the gpu and sharing onboard memory.i also checked the site and it gave a green for minimum settings.

i also googled the problem i was having, and apparently people with brand new top end vedeo cards are having the same problems, its simply seems to be poorly written video card support, which would be fixed in patches like most other games had to shortly after release.

Well...sorry to hear you are having these problems. My GTX 680's are handling the game fine at max settings...though having two of them is kind of overkill for this game. ;)

Have you or anyone else sent in bug reports?

some of my friends have,i havent.

im still not too worried,i know arenanet will patch that soon enough as its in mmo and needs to run smoothly on a wide variety of cards.i should though send in a bug report for gw2 shutting down my computer instantly like someone pulled the plug during character creation.
