A Call To Arms For Decent Men

Seems like the whole young-men culture has been getting progressively more immature, sexist, homophobic, male-centric and egotistical for the past few years.

I actually don't see that on the whole. To be honest, from everything I have been able to see, men under 35 or so think of women more equally and are more GBLT-friendly by a huge margin. As a straight woman, I can't honestly think of any other time I'd rather be in. The older folks will say, "but chivalry's dead." And yes, that's true. But you know what? Good riddance. I'll take shared common decency over weird gender-typed social mores any day.

I think this phenomena is actually fairly simple to explain.

What percentage of people on the internet do you think are trolls? Double digits, right? How many of them do you think act like douchebags in real life? The internet creates anonymity and with the wrong influences at the helm of the social ladder, it's easy for unhealthy trends to develop because there's no meaningful impact.

Also, some games have a younger player base. And when I say "younger," I mean teens, a population who is still very susceptible to peer pressure.

Finally, for every couple of hobby gamers out there, there's also a socially dysfunctional one. I am certainly not casting stones at gamers as a whole, and there's unhealthily obsessed people in most things. But for those who are socially dysfunctional, some have a lot of resentment towards the opposite sex, and childish notions of their gender identity, which could also be the genesis for some of this stuff. It's certainly possible there are more of them than their used to be, as technology becomes so ubiquitous.

But get out into the wider population of guys, and really, it's a pretty decent lot on the whole. Some of the ones closer to my age are having problems due to the timing of the recession, but this is just as true for women my age as well.

Tell us more about your support for being disrespectful towards women and minorities.

I support being able to open your mouth whenever you please and saying whatever it is that is your mind to anyone at any time. If you supported free speech you would as well. I know your little feelings are hurt about it, but frankly, that doesn't matter.

Also, I don't do this whole protected class thing like you people do. When the first amendment says the "congress shall make no law to abridge speech" it means it and so do I. It doesn't mention anything about your hurt feelings being an opening and I agree with it not being there too.

Nobody said you don't have the right to do it. Nice straw man there, chief. Guess what? The 1st amendment only means the government wont penalize you for what you say. However, you can still get banned from your video games, fired from your job, dumped by your girlfriend, or you can get called an asshole because of your speech. A bunch of overweight, pathetic manchildren are shouting slurs behind the cover of internet anonymity, things they'd never have the courage to say to someone face to face, and you're saying the guy who calls them on it is "being a little bitch?"

Sounds to me like you're one of those people and you just want approval for your being a dick.

Onling gaming was not the alpha, and it won't be the omega when it comes to talking tough on the internet.

I have always really wondered who these little bastards are in real life. I've known many people who play video games, plenty of whom are downright immature, but nothing like what you see with regularity on XBL. Its just insane how many pathetic vermin foul the gaming environment.

Internet bullying laws say otherwise..

I know, and what do you think people want here to be done and how is it going to be done? Government.

Causes clear and measurable harm. Not covered under the 1st amendment.

No, the message is "stop being an asshole."

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Where is this clear and measurable harm business? If they can't pass any laws towards it the answer is no ****ing where.

And what clear and measurable harm? You are on the Internet and someone is writing something that is mean. Don't read it and if you can, block the user. Also, grow a ****ing pair. People are mean, they are assholes and they have a right to be mean and assholes.

No, the message is "stop being an asshole."

Yeah, and then when that doesn't work these same people that are telling people to stop being assholes will run to the government to shut up people. History has a tendency to repeat itself with weakness and worthless people more than anyone else and these people always run the government as the government is their mommy.

How's about 100 million gamers civilizing themselves?

You are trying to reform douchebags. Guess what, they be douchebags. Reform them?? Reform themselves?????? LOL. Good luck with that one. You gona need it.

You're saying this isn't a serious threat?

These are direct threats against Stephanie Guthrie for trying to expose and shame the creator of the "Beat Up Anita" game.

Quit making excuses for the outrageous behavior of so many assholes.
The time to be serious is when the gal gets a horses head or someother such thing in her bed. Till then theys just a bunch whiny prepubesent punks doing douchebaggery. Not worth any time at all. If the little punks send the horse head then game on, time to sic a procecuter on their sorry hides.

I got to thinking a little more about this subject and came to this conclusion. Ladies if you want to have the smack talk cut down from the little boys and douchebags, then you need to bring your A game make and make the little twits beg for their mommy. Theres only one way to get respect in the gaming world and thats to earn it. So you need to start handing the twits their heads. Or at least be on the winning team handing out heads. Remember that you are dealing with for the most part a bunch of adolesent, at least in mind anyhow, boys. Which means you need to treat them as such. Step on them hard. They are less than coahroaches and DESERVE to be stepped on. Make em cry. Bring your A game make them work for anything they get. Dont be nice to douchebags, in fact go out of your way to cruel to them. They get into a match with you, show no mercy and have your friends gang up on them. Speaking of friends use your feminan charms to get their team to gang up on them as well. NOBODY LIKES douchebags, and douchebaggery. Theres nothing like being bushwacked by your own team to get you into thinking about what you did to piss em off. If you are currently kicking their butts, and they are still smack talking, then the likelyhood is they like you. In which case you are free to ignor or return the insults as you choose. This concludes my thoughts. ;)

Suicide falls under clear and measurable harm. No amount of blathering about rights will get around the fact that sometimes kids are bullied to the point of suicide.

You do not have the right to do that to someone. Deal with it.

Now, when someone proposes it become illegal to be an asshole on Xbox, I'll be right there with you. But nobody is doing that. They're saying "hey, stop being an asshole." But if the conspiracy theories make you feel better...

I don't see suicide mentioned. Can anyone help me find where it says suicide is an exception to the rule of NO LAWS ALLOWED to restrict speech? I keep looking for these exceptions people mention in the first amendment, but you know, I just can't see them. Where the **** are they?

Anyway, some people get depressed from the world around them and kill themselves. Sometimes its from assholes and sometimes its from other things and it sucks, but that is no reason to restrict speech and throw people in prison for it. No one violates your rights because they are mean to you and telling me that it might lead to someone acting on themselves does not make it a right violation either.

You do not have the right to do that to someone. Deal with it.

I do and I even told you where its listed. I didn't have to do that for you since the bill of rights isn't meant to list all rights granted, but I did. You obviously don't approve of my favor that I granted you.

Its not a conspiracy theory but an understanding of where these things start and end. Where it starts is right here and where it ends judging by the history of these things is exactly where I said it was. If you think using history to judge future events based on similar courses of action is what a conspiracy theory makes you're an odd fellow that doesn't much understand the purpose of why its valuable to understand history in the first place.
