10 insanely tough games

I've played a few of those.

Trials HD is pretty fun but indeed, the expert levels are insane.

Demon Souls is also an incredibly difficult game, my roommate introduced me to it a few months ago and I played it for about 30 minutes and knew I wasn't gonna be any good at it.

I can't see your list since the Navy filters any site that even mentions games.

I will say that the remade game, Wolfenstein, which came out several years ago, was insanely difficult because of all the boss fights. Also, the remake of Quake, Quake 4, or something was difficult because of the constant bosses in every room and no available health packs. I was playing on the Normal level. Then there were the Painkiller series, with again, highly difficult Bosses. Having to fight extremely difficult boss sections ruins the games for me.

I Wanna Be the Guy is the hardest game ive ever played. I remember watching a guy play parts of it on youtube and the entire time he is screaming at his computer.

Ghosts and Goblins. man. that was the first game i thought of when i clicked this thread.

it was awesomely cool by 1987 home console standards, but it was also damned impossible. if you die, you go back to square one no matter where you are in the game, and it's a long game. i played that one until my fingers were numb and i still didn't get very far. it was much more fun after i got a game genie.

i've never really been a fan of frustrating games. i'm playing for enjoyment, not frustration.

for that genre of games, i vastly preferred Rygar. at least you had a chance of really getting through the game without having to use cheats. much of my 1988 was spent on that game and on building the ultimate RC dunebuggy : the RC10. i loved that car. ah, the good old days.

People play frustrating games because they have no lives. It's better than doing nothing at all.

Heck, video games in general can qualify as that. It's not like you get laid or have someone bake you an apple pie after saving the world.

Inclusion of Oregon Trail made me laugh. I got close a couple times, but never made it to the end. If the real Oregon Trail were that hard, the west would still be wild and unsettled.

Psssht, I hauled ass across the Oregon Trail, got there before anyone else, dysentery-free mind you, built myself a pimp-ass log cabin and sat back with some buffalo meat, countin my moneys.

I was like, "Where ya'll been? Sh*t, ain't no more meat to hunt around here."

How is Wizardry V not on the list?

A lot of the early console games would fit such a list. The cartridges were so limited in storage that you couldn't really cram much of a game into them, so they had to just make them really hard so people would play them longer.

Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, I'm looking at you.

I never lost at the Oregon Trail unless I tried to lose.

Is there still a way to play Oregon Trail? I wonder what it's like to play now...

The worst part about Ghost and Goblins is when you beat the game you realize that you haven't actually beat it, and have to play it again at a harder difficulty. Bastards.

I love Dead Island, but I find it very hard once you get past the beginning areas. Now, my 16yo son whupped DI's ass in his usual fashion, but his Dad isn't quite the Master of Games that he is.... for one thing I don't have nearly as much time to play...

Battletoads was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title. I hated those damn hoverbikes as a kid.

How did Oregon Trail make the list though? That game was pretty easy.

Lol I never got past the hoverbikes either. I actually own Battletoads and an NES. Wonder if I can do it now.

i still have my NES, also. it's still functional. the controllers survived the 13 year old version of me throwing them during ghost and goblin frustration.

funny story : i bought Legend of Zelda in 1987, and there was a note in the instruction manual that the internal battery would last five years. i put the cartridge in about five months ago : the saved games are still there. i was pretty amazed.

That freaking hoverbike level. It was just a test of muscle memory. Precursor to guitar hero.

I beat contra many times...I loved that game...I was addicted to it..

Maybe there were different versions of the game, but it's a very hard game to beat. Not sure what game/version you were playing.

You probably just "misremember". it was easy to play, but not win.

It was all luck whether or not you made it across most rivers. i usually just sat and hunted all the time cause the river crossing and such were such bull****.

I definitely would have battletoads on the list. I remember wanting to see the giant-titted villainess so bad in that game as a kid, but always that god damn speedbike portion wrecked me. haha.
Other tough ones i remember act raiser, miracle warriors, shinobi, teenage mutant ninja turtles, populous.

The DOS version of Leisure Suit Larry was always good for a laugh, but I never could get too far with it.

Maybe they came out with an easier version later. I just remember playing it in the computer lab at school in 2nd or 3rd grade, which would have been 1992 or 1993. I don't think I misremember at all. I can remember finishing the game pretty regularly. At least half the time.

I remember playing it on an Apple 2e.

I couldn't tell you if I beat it or not. Or even how hard it was.

I played that one for a minute. my favorites, though, were the space quests and king's quest. sierra also had one called Ween : the prophecy. that might have been my all time favorite.
