Curt Schilling On Hannity

You misunderstand, or perhaps I misled you unintentionally.

I was suggesting that a Diablo MMO might be the next step.

Oh ok...nah it was me that just misunderstood...It might...not on my account thought I dont like the game personally...but there sure is alot who do...i think wow expected to lose alot of players to diablo thats why they offered that contract deal to keep everyone stuck paying for wow for some extra months...

I liked EvE - but it's so complex that you would need to devote most of your available gaming time to it alone - and I'm interested in so many games and game genres that I’d.

It was interesting, but not enough for me personally that I was willing to focus on it.
I really liked the apparent direction they were taking it though, what with the captain’s quarters and possible multiplayer area in future…combined with the Dust 514 bit.

It's interesting... but in a long term and slow kinda way.

Right this minute diablo3 is the fasted selling game in the world and ever...I just read that today but cant remember what site to post it...I read alot of sites today.

Wow is dieing because of attrition...people were dedicated to the game for alot of years like me....have finally gotten tired and are looking for something else...but wow is alive and well and still making money...is it dieing...a very slow death yes...but you have to remember how long its been out there making tons of money...

Let me repeat this: WoW has over 10 million subscriptions still. No other MMO comes close. To say WoW is dying is simply silly. Is the playerbase declining from it's peak? Yes, it peaked at about 12 million. However, to compare it to, as an exampel Everquest: Everquest hit it's peak subscriptions in 2002. It went F2P in 2012 and was active and profitable for those 10 years(still is profitable from what I hear, though not by alot). Everquest never has 1 million subscribers. Blizzard could most likely keep WoW running profitably for at least another 10 years as well, probably longer.

The thing about Eve is it is complex to start, it has a steep learning curve. But once you understand what is going on is not much more complex than any other MMO.

I had the high-sec mining bit down more or less....did a few missions in a cruiser...

I just couldn't get into it somehow.

A fascinating article on the 38 Studio situation, with quotes from a number of employees: Gamasutra - News - 38 Studios' Downfall: The Gamasutra Report

"At the end, he stopped talking to us at all -- which is a shame, because he honestly loved the setting and both teams, because they were personal dreams of his... He was a naive sucker, and I think his VPs played him, but he always had the kindest intents for everyone, and was never malicious or manipulative. He deserves that much to be known."

"I know this scandal has been painting Curt as a hypocritical idiot, but he is absolutely one of the good guys," another source at 38 Studios agrees. "[Schilling] often said that if there is anything he or the company can do to help in times of crisis or need, that he would be there, and until this mess, he was always able to back that up."

One of the saddest, most notable things from the situation was that the company was unable to cover medical insurance costs, and so stopped paying for it without telling any one:

What infuriates many former employees most about the collapse is that they're forced to scramble to find health care; even an employee who was a cancer survivor was abruptly left with chemotherapy sessions to cover. Bill Thomas, president and COO was the author of the infamously-terse 11th-hour layoffs email.

And the human element:

"While the average company salary has been quoted around $86,000, many many individuals were making far less than that, and living paycheck to paycheck," says a 38 Studios employee. "When we didn't get paid, it immediately became very difficult for a number of people, but they continued coming in and working anyway. As it seemed like things were not being resolved, people started bringing in extra food and leaving it in the kitchen for anyone who needed it to grab."

I dont disagree with you...but if you go look at the server list...there are less than half the number of FULL servers as they had, since diablo was released...Id bet there isnt 10 million right now...and as more games get released they are going to pull from wow if they are worth their salt....for example The Secret World and Guildwars2...someone redress is going to Pop out an mmorph eventually that is going to be just as immersing as World of Warcraft was when it hit....it has to happen...Wow will always be considered the greatest ever and I doubt any 1 game will have the success wow did by being the first.
Just like Doom and Quake were the top dogs and nothing since has been as successful...online FPS that is

That's really sad, sucks because I was really rooting for this studio.
