Government shut down does nothing to stop the USA from bombing people around the world...

Nice to know.

You wouldn't have to pay me a dime to drop some hell on these bastards.

Point is that the government is not shut down... just some hard working Americans are getting screwed.

I likely won't see my retirement check nor my disability check coming...

But the thread is about US operations against a terrorist group... And I say "Game on".

Looks like more terrorists just got recruited.

Then I guess there is no cure for Islamic Extremist Terror Organizations...

Can't negotiate with them.

Can't kill them.

Can't let them constantly terrorize people.

How about we stop being cops of the world? We didnt have any terrorists as enemies until we started messing with other countries.

How was the line this time?

They keep getting shorter don't they.

The point is made.

No its not. The war on terror will never end this way. It didnt work before and it wont work now.

Terrorism should be everyone's job.
If you want neverending war, then this is the way to do it.

Whatever passes for the actual government down there asked for the help, just an FYI.
"Whatever passes for a government over there" is spot on, alright. We shouldnt have to be compelled to say yes either.

It's a war of guns and butter.

Guns to kill the bad guys who do keep coming at us from over there.

Butter for the populations that need to leave the terrorists without the urban and rural bases terrorists need and must have. This is 4th generation warfare which is protracted. It's an extant reality of the national defense from over here.

I am more pacifist than "not", generally speaking but you might be much more of one than I am, not that there's anything wrong with that. But even though I tend toward pacifism, it is not an absolute with me. It seems rather obvious to me at least, that Al-Shabbab isn't the least bit interested in leading, governing, protecting or otherwise providing for the majority population of Somalia, therefore they are not there at the invitation of the majority of the Somali people.

Given that groups like these behave as a sort of parasite, it does no nation good to allow them to continue with impunity.
We are not the only country helping out in Somalia. I think even Canada has been helping out.

i support wartime marginal tax rates until every conflict has ceased. i also support requiring a formal declaration of war before any war can begin.

Your suggestion is for us to ignore terrorists.

We tried that.

Then 9/11.

Yup. Kill one & three of his immediate family sign up. It's like a virus or nuclear chain reaction.

War has become the new normal, especially after Bush let the cork out of the Mideast stability bottle by getting rid of Saddam. Old news but we're still paying the price today, like that airstrike in Somalia.

if we require shared sacrifice, a constant state of war will probably become less normal. even hawks on an anonymous message board are generally unwilling to pay extra for it.

Al Shabab is an Al Qaeda affiliate IIRC. Al Qaeda predates Saddam.

Most Americans don't know anything about their own state or country, let alone what we are doing in some remote s***-hole in a country in Africa they could not find on a map.
