I am working on some quiz questions regarding significant African heads of state.

So far my shortlist consists of

Nelson Mandela
Julius Nyerere
Haile Selassie
to the extent Egypt is Africa one might argue that Nasser belongs on that list.

For all its limitations, after all the aim is to make some real good quiz questions, any comments on my short list?

I

Kenyatta. Significance: Leader of the armed independence revolution, successfully in 1963, and first president for a couple decades.

Moi. Kenyatta's right hand man, became president after him for a couple decades. Significance: Stepped down in 2003, making way for multi party elections. Perhaps the only national leader with dictatorial power to ever do so anywhere.

Haile Selassie

Unless your context is sub-Saharan Africa, why would you exclude Egypt?

African history is hardly a class most people take. Good luck with suggestions from a random group of people with little to no knowledge of African history. I've never studied it, I just know about Kenya.

Your only limitation is knowledge. As you didn't even know about Kenyatta, you're gonna need a lot of help. A history textbook for a 101 level class would be a good idea.

To end up with something closer to 5 than 50, I I will need to exclude the "right hands"

The most important argument would be that it is the Middle East more than it is Africa. Germany is seldom refereed to as Asia, regardless that it is the same physical continent.

That's not the significant part, that was information for you because you're obviously totally ignorant of African history. His peaceful transition to multi party democracy was and is globally unprecedented.

Getting to 50, let alone 5, would be easy if you weren't totally ignorant of African history. Are you sure you should be making a quiz? Sounds like you need to review the answers from chapter 1 of a community college textbook.

Will your quiz concern actual geography or your personal version?

Augusto Pinochet did that as well in Chile
