Admirable: when faced with groups like Boko Haram, many flee but a few stand their ground and go hunting Boko Haram.

Like the female Kurdish fighters in Northern Iraq and Syria, I hope she claims quite a few victims who won't thus qualify for their 72 virgins.

BBC Link with video.

Obviously, some of their tactics against suspects have been questionable but in war, most morality goes out the window.

I am still on the fence on the question of whether it is a good idea to have many or many be even any women around when the fighting happens.

Good point if you are considering modern Western infantry units where grunts may have to carry around almost their bodyweight in equipment etc but light units such as these vigilante and the Kurdish units seem to work just fine.

On the other hand, better that these women can fight back rather than sit back as victims and wait for male rescuers to arrive.

Well you know of my hostility towards victim culture so you know that I like that.

Re the Kurds, I was reading someone who said that all that ra ra women arnt they wonderful stuff is mostly propaganda,...that women dont do as much as is claimed and that the men are fully in charge and everyone knows it.

Have you an opinion on the matter?

Yes, I believe the Kurdish women are kept from the front, however in the case of the vigilantes in Nigeria, no they are not. My opinion - anything that helps the fight against IS is good and if the Kurdish women are called in to deliver a final coup de grace, then all is fair in war.

I applaud her for taking back control. It's important for communities all over the world, in places that are not protected by law enforcement or even their military, as in this case the Nigerian army, to take their security into their own hands.
