Five Telltale Signs of a Crisis Pregnancy Center

Anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers have a record of lying to women, so why do they keep getting state funding? - Pittsburgh Current

Article Quote:

"Planned Parenthood Public Affairs Director Jessica Semler visited a CPC with a pregnant friend a few years ago. The two women had a fair bit of information about the options available to pregnant women, but took the opportunity to find out what CPCs are all about.

Semler says the center had the same appearance as any other woman’s health clinic. The people working there wore scrubs. And upon entering, her friend was asked to fill out the usual intake forms. But there were noticeable differences.

“One of the first questions asked, how many people are with you today, including your unborn baby,” Semler says.

“Immediately, they gave her information about adoption. When she asked for information about abortion, they said they weren’t allowed to provide it because it’s so dangerous and unsafe that the state bans them from providing information about it.” "

Okay, so my question to the CPC staffer would be: "Then why couldn't your site just say, 'we don't do abortions' so I didn't have to waste my time coming here?" Then I would have LEFT.

That's just one fraud or manipulation after another starting with the visual fraud of having volunteer dressed as medical personnel. Forcing the client to acknowledge the fetus as a person is egregious manipulation. And saying the state prohibits talking about abortion is just a flat out lie.

I went onto the Compass website - they did not seem as deceptive as others I have seen.

One thing stuck out like a sore thumb.

They prominently listed the complications of abortion (which by the way are rare)

Immediate Complications
Damage to the womb or cervix
Excessive bleeding
Incomplete abortion, requiring a (additional) surgical abortion procedure
Infection of the uterus or fallopian tubes
Scarring of the inside of the uterus
Sepsis or Septic shock
Uterine perforation
Death

It was very telling that they did not talk about complications of a pregnancy continuing (up to term) which are much more frequent. If the woman is coming in seeking abortion and she is only told of abortion risks --- it is a scare tactic not meant for the well being of the woman unless they compare it to the risk of taking a pregnancy to term.

They also do not indicate that the complications are rare for abortions.

Other things struck me as well, they indicate that non symptomatic women need chlamydia tests....they indicate results of the test are needed to make sure they are infection free before abortion is considered. I have to wonder how long it takes to get results? One tactic they have been known to use is stalling a woman so she is either priced out of an abortion or it is too late to consider. Perhaps I am wrong.

I will say that awhile back I was pointed to a center's website that caused me to look further. There was no obvious deception, they clearly made their desire to first and foremost help you find a path to maintaining your pregnancy. They seemed to help with resources if needed to get medical care , social services, and community services. IIRC they could also receive parenting education and could earn credits to obtain needed baby supplies in their center. To me, that is what they should be. (I think notabene pointed me to the site :2wave:). The centers that stall and give inaccurate information are reprehensible.

There is no really good reason that CPCs can't be truly helpful caring and honest. There are plenty of women in their twenties that are undecided about carrying out a pregnancy. They could offer in depth counseling to help the woman examine her deeper concerns about motherhood. They could offer real pre and post natal care, discuss options about birthing methods, provide detailed information and the science of the rhythm method. They could provide counseling and help on job retention, maternity leave, housing options. They could have baby showers for women in new locations with no relatives and few friends. Instead they choose to seek out the vulnerable poor and clueless teens, lie to them and manipulate them out of probably their best solution; abortion.

Why be despicable when with just a little effort you could be honest and helpful and still meet your goal of fetuses saved. Oh, you didn't know they had goals?

Agreed. And IMO this is why all girls and women who don't know about dishonest CPCs and the tactics they use need to be informed now, so they can avoid going to these places by mistake in the future.
