For those who believe that nobody thinks this way.....

I wonder how he thinks that anyone would know which women are in the early weeks of pregnancy? Women don't need a doctor anymore to know if they are pregnant - drug store pregnancy tests are very reliable. And you can get drugs to induce a miscarriage via mail or on the black market.

Or stopping women at state borders? Airports, Mex/CAN borders? Asking for their 'medical' papers? "Papers please!"

If women dont want a pregnancy/child, they no longer even need to seek a Dr to confirm it, so then any actions they take after that would not register them with "the authorities!" They would just hide their state and go have it taken care of. Or take the pills.

That is why abortion is constitutional

The government would have to engage in unreasonable search and seizures to enforce an abortion ban.

A myriad of Constitutional violations actually. But yes.

Well, bless his heart.

Perhaps he needs an ankle monitor to warn us if he every steps out of his mental health care facility.

It's hard to believe a man in the 21st century just said that. Then again it was unbelievable when Indiana Senate candidate Mourdock said, "rape was just another way God started a new life"

It appears he was playing devil's advocate and my guess, based on the limited context I can find within the video, was that the general point is actually about guns. The argument being along of the lines of using an absurdity to point out some other absurdity.

I suspect very few people think putting tracking devices on women is a good idea.

That asswipe does not understand that The Handmaid's Tale was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction guide.

I just finished reading the sequel, written 35 yrs later (but not "occurring" 35 yrs later).

Good book, interesting fleshing out of Gilead, but the ending was a let down after the build up.

I haven't read the books, but I have seen the tv series and the movie - scary stuff.

He may have been serious. Here's the explanation included with the video:

"During a debate in Sterling, VA last week, Republican Delegate Candidate Bill Drennan, running in Virginia's 87th Delegate District against Democrat Suhas Subramanyam, responds to a question about gun violence by saying the real problem is abortion, and that in order to lower that he proposes putting ankle bracelet monitors on pregnant women to ensure they won't get abortions."

oh gawd, he IS that stupid....

Looked into Bill Drennan's comments a bit further. I think you were right he is using ankle bracelets for women as a reductio ad absurdum argument. However he is into the Democrats-are-for-infanticide lie.

(from People for the American Way,)
Bill Drennan, a Republican running for Virginia state House, seemed to suggest at a recent forum that women who get abortions be made to wear ankle bracelets, Blue Virginia’s lowkell reported Monday. His suggestion appeared to be an attempt to make a point about “common-sense” gun legislation, which he opposes because he claims that the Constitution does not allow restrictions on the right to own firearms. And by “ankle bracelets,” we’re assuming he means the law-enforcement kind used to track people accused or convicted of crimes, and not the Kay Jewelers kind.

Drennan, who is running against a field of candidates that includes Democrat Suhas Subramanyam (full disclosure: Subramanyam has been endorsed by People for the American Way, of which this website is a part), started out by equating aborted fetuses to the lives of individuals killed by gun violence. “The number of abortions in Virginia in 2017 was 17,210. The number of gun deaths, the misuse of guns, was 1,041. That’s a ratio of 16.5 to 1,” Drennan said. “How about this, contrarian? I’m going to impose commonsense restrictions on the constitutional right to an abortion? How about ankle bracelets? I don’t think very many people would agree with this.”

As lowkell reported, Drennan’s website falsely claims that Democrats in Richmond had proposed “legislation that would have eliminated restrictions on third-trimester abortions and legalized infanticide.” It also states that “life begins at conception” and that Drennan “opposes red-flag laws that are designed to strip citizens of their unalienable rights.” Red-flag laws allow law enforcement to prevent people who may be a threat to themselves or others from accessing firearms.

Darn...if only you had watched the actual debate instead of reliabley swallowed the sound bite you were being spoon fed.

He topic was actually not abortion...it was gun control. The proposals being discussed were a myriad of 'common sense gun restriction' on law abiding citizens to prevent gun deaths. He stated HE WAS GOING TO BE CONTRARIAN...he compared the two issues..and then offered the ridiculous proposal about ankle bracelets IMMEDIATELY followed by the sentence "I dont think anyone in this room would go for that" meaning he didnt think it was fair to impose oppressive laws on ALL people.

You were duped.

Again.

I haven't read the books, but I have seen the tv series and the movie - scary stuff.

The books are amazing. I recommend them.

I havent watched the 2nd season yet because I wanted to read the book first. So now I can!

SEE #16. Nobody was duped even though the video was set up to dupe. We've all realized that it was a reductio ad absurdum technique.Although it's interesting that the only example he could think of was bracketing a pregnant women.

I've heard that after the first season, the tv series does not follow the first book.

I wouldn't be surprised if he truly believes in it, but didn't want to say so for fear of being ridiculed.

Surprise, surprise, surprise, another republican interested in somebody's sex life that's not his own.

What a bunch of oppressed perverts. Religion does that to some folks.

I dont think it will either. The main character in the series isnt really a player in the book.

It's interesting how Christianity, which, as preached by Christ, never mentioned sex or anyone sexuality or the proper way to go about sex, or what not to do about sex, has evolved to loom very large in the conservative Christian version of Christianity. I wonder if they understand why?

Ma'am.....I need to see your womb registration card and most recent pregnancy test before you can board this aircraft leaving the Peoples Moral Church of the United States.

Complete and total idiocy. The christian right needs to be pushed to the total fringe and eradicated from political discourse. Keep your ****ing faith in your own damned house.
