Illinois Governor Signs Bill Scrapping Third-Trimester Abortion Restrictions

We can afford healthcare for all if we tax all. You in?

I have been paying into healthcare for decades. We get no bang for the buck. Our current system leaves many hard working Americans behind and many dead and dying to this lack of readily available /affordable health care.It started getting unreasonable (IMHO) about 30 years ago. Insurance companies had become the greedy middle men that allowed even the insured to not access even care that was covered. We need to get out the expensive greedy middle men and go to a single payer system.

SO my answer is hell yeah I am in. I pay over $600 month for myself and my son on top of the medicare taxes that are taken out of my paycheck and on top of taxes in general. My guess is that my employer also pays $600 to $1000 for my medical insurance (which inevetably cuts into my pay).

S0 yeah, I want more bang for my buck.

We are paying middle men - our insurance companies obscene sums that could easily be used to give better care and more access to those in need.

Hell yeah I am in.

Makes no sense at all! Democrats are the party of death.

You don’t have a point. Just insults. Like you’re performing for a crowd. An attention seeker.

Crystal, so are you.

I think a "party of death" idolizes guns, seeks to make sure the underprivileged and the working poor have as little help as possible - much of which is life saving either in the short or long term, seeks to make sure executions are the name of the game, pushes for war......it is about perspective.

But please do not pretend with comments like "party of death" you are not performing for a crowd. Don't be a hypocrite. And perhaps when you are calling out people on insults you will take a moment that calling Democrats "the party of death" is beyond insulting.

So tell me brother! Does the baby live?

Some people have trouble with honest discussion.

I've already challenged that poster to do that. That poster has refused. Not surprisingly.

Probably because "we" know that there isnt any supporting information available.

So tell me brother! Does the baby live?

Well without adequate healthcare, many babies suffer and yes die.

Thank you for reminding everyone about the importance of high quality healthcare.

To that point, many woman choose abortion due to poor access to healthcare (short and long term) as well as housing insecurity.

So tell me brother! Does the baby live?

When legal choice is offered more babies are born.

When legal choice is offered less women have life threatening septic infections.

Pro abortion advocates produce endless streams of justification.

Hats off to Illinois for standing as a bastion to bodily autonomy when too many out-of-control states try to restrict it!

Nothing says bodily autonomy like killing a baby.

Babies are being killed, holy crap....is there another Gosnell? ??

I thought we were talking abortion.

You seem to be confusing 'pro-abortion' with 'pro-choice.'...There is a HUGE difference in the two concepts, and there is no justification needed for being pro-choice.

I thought we were talking abortion.

Bodily autonomy for a pregnant female and killing babies have absolutely nothing to do with each each. You clearly need to educate yourself regarding this matter.

I thought we were talking abortion. What babies are being killed. Are we speaking to Gosnell ?

This is a fetus a 3 months

Just to clear the confusion some seem to have regarding conversing about a fetus and a baby.;)

From Maireed McCardle at National Review:

The bill scraps a requirement that a second physician sign off on an abortion performed after viability (around 24 weeks) and permits the procedure for the “health of the patient,” which includes “all factors that are relevant to the patient’s health and well-being, including, but not limited to, physical, emotional, psychological, and familial health and age.”

The law also repeals Illinois’s Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, although that procedure, usually performed extremely late in a pregnancy, is still prohibited by federal law. Certain non-doctor medical professionals would be permitted to perform abortions under the law, and all health insurers would be required to cover the procedure.

Illinois Governor & Abortion -- J.B. Pritzker Signs Bill Scrapping Third-Trimester Abortion Restrictions | National Review

Governor Pritzker thinks his signing this law will make Illinois a "beacon of hope." How tragic.
Most abortion occures in the 1st trimester anyway so...

How different are a third-trimester fetus and a newborn baby?

I am curious, when we are talking third trimester abortions, in general, why do they happen?

I think if I found out in third trimester about catrastrophic fetal issues I would continue on with the pregnancy and go for perinatal palliative care if warranted.

But since I am not the pregnant woman with catastrophic fetal issues - I cannot answer for another woman.

In this issue about third trimester abortions it is important to understand why they happen. It is usually a personal tragedy for the families involved.

I believe I know someone that got a third trimester abortion . She got the news of Tay Sachs. A week later there was an ultrasound that showed multiple severe cardiac issues.
I would not presume to know the agony she faced to come to that decision.
