'Morally Despicable': Trump Administration Threatens to Veto UN Resolution Combating Rape as Weapon of War

"In recent months, the Trump administration has taken a hard line, refusing to agree to any U.N. documents that refer to sexual or reproductive health, on grounds that such language implies support for abortions," the Guardian reported. "It has also opposed the use of the word 'gender,' seeing it as a cover for liberal promotion of transgender rights."
If there was any doubt as to the GOP's end game on abortion look at the world stage. Americans don't usually watch what their govt does at the UN, but here is a glimpse into America's future if they get their way. They do not want any abortion in the long run, even in the case of rape and incest. Their proposed laws will chip away at women's reproductive rights at home on the slow and quiet; internationally they're showing their hand already.
Now listen Donald, stay focused, hold it together. Put down the bucket of chicken. Stop tweeting. Go into the next bedroom. Get under the bed. Calm down. Now the next part is very important...

Abortion is murder, even after rape and incest.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false, and does not swear deceitfully. Psalm 24

It really isn't, no matter how much you wish it were true.

I get it if somebody is raped.

Abortion is absolutely murder though no matter the circumstance.

There is a whole lot more to this story than the OP article suggests.

This is really the only factual part of that whole article:

"In recent months, the Trump administration has taken a hard line, refusing to agree to any U.N. documents that refer to sexual or reproductive health, on grounds that such language implies support for abortions," the Guardian reported. "It has also opposed the use of the word 'gender,' seeing it as a cover for liberal promotion of transgender rights."
Everything else in the article is spin, whining and crying.

If they really want to combat rape as a weapon of war, deal with that. Leave the other stuff...the stuff that the US doesn't want...out of it.

Don't try to inject stealth nonsense into something everyone cares about and then whine when the US walks away. That is just plain dishonest.

The best recourse is to vote Trump out of office in November of 2020.

Abortions didn't just happen as a regular occurrence because of Roe v. Wade and it won't end if abortion becomes illegal. Abortions have been performed for many centuries. The first recorded evidence of induced abortion is from the Egyptian Ebers Papyrus in 1550 BCE. In the U.S. it goes back to the 1800's when anti-abortion statues began to appear. It is a prime tactic of the anti-abortion movement to deceive women and misrepresent medical facts about abortion. Throughout history, laws have never stopped abortions and without access to safe, early abortion, women will again turn to back-alley abortions—and thousands of women will die. Without protection of Roe, women, their doctors, other healthcare workers, and anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion could be prosecuted and sentenced to long prison terms. The choice of abortion should be a decision made between a woman and her doctor. Government should not interfere in that decision.

All health care providers should be able to give their patients high quality, individualized care based on their professional judgment, without fear of political intrusion that undermines professional standards of care. All patients are entitled to receive care based on their individual needs and what is medically appropriate, not on a political ideology.

Not all people who have sex choose to get pregnant, and even those who do should not be forced to continue a pregnancy. This essentially shames people for enjoying sex and makes it all about reproduction rather than pleasure or connecting with a partner. I would also argue that it is more responsible for a person to have an abortion if they know that they cannot care for or support a child. The American foster and adoption systems are already very full, and there are not necessarily government systems (welfare, universal healthcare, etc.) that might provide for a child. Abortion might very well be the most responsible decision for a person.

An important thing to remember about pregnancy is that fetuses are dependent on the pregnant person’s body in order to stay alive. And because of an idea called bodily autonomy (i.e. the reason that you can’t be forced to donate organs even if it would save a person’s life), we cannot make a person continue a pregnancy when they do not want to. I would also point out that it isn’t right for someone to decide whether a person has to continue a pregnancy that might negatively impact them physically, socially and financially.

The noted stance strikes me as a macro-level tactical spline in the "wheel" of curtailing women's ascendancy in the workplace, thereby restoring male dominance thereunto, as well as, at the very least, retaining the nature and extent of women's financial dependence on and earnings inferiority to men.

To the extent the phenomena manifests among low income women/families, the correlations between education and income, crime and income, impacts roll forward and/or spread.
