Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere. I was pretty flabbergasted to hear about it:

Texas abortion bill would allow the death penalty for women - Vox

A bill recently introduced in Texas would make it possible for women to get the death penalty for having abortions.

The bill would criminalize all abortions, with no exceptions for rape or incest, and would make it possible to charge a woman with homicide for having the procedure, according to the Washington Post. The state of Texas allows capital punishment for homicide.

Rep. Tony Tinderholt, a Republican state legislator who introduced the bill, says it would make people “consider the repercussions” of having sex.

Obviously the bill won't pass, but the immorality behind it is worth talking about. This seems really antithetical to anyone who claims to be "pro-life".

So a minor could get raped and incested by her father, and then get the death penalty if she tries to get rid of the pregnancy.

Talk about twisted!

Christian sharia. Another example of why freedom requires constant vigilance. Liberals fight for rights and freedom and conservatives, when they get into power, will always try to roll the calendar back to the bad ole days.

Texas legislators forget that over over 60 percent of women who have abortions already have one or more children they are raising.

If they sentence mothers to death, the Texas Forster program will have many more motherless children in their system costing taxpayers a lot more money.

Foster care is about $40,000 a year per child in 2006.

From the following article:
Despite more than a decade of intended reform, the nation's foster care system is still overcrowded and rife with problems. But taxpayers are spending $22 billion a year -- or $40,000 a child -- on foster care programs.

Great, the Talibornagain strikes again, on their way to a christian theocracy lead by church leaders who tell what the politicians are allowed to decide is coming one step closer.

And all women would be slaves to govt oversight of their bodies in order to enforce it...goodby Constitutional rights and bodily sovereignty. Pregnancy isnt a crime...good by probable cause and due process.

Ludicrous and about as non-Christian as you can get. Delusional actually...who actually values women so little that they value the unborn above them like that? Sickening and disturbing...someone's been watching way too much Handmaid's Tale.

Not all conservatives.

Good. Any parent who murders their child deserves death.

You do realize this also means a pregnant woman, even if she were impregnated by force, would then be forced to have a baby?

Texas has it all jacked up. Capital punishment should be allowed for rapists, baby rapers and child molesters.

The death penalty should definitely go to the abortion provider.

As for the woman, just like in all homicide cases, extenuating circumstances are taken into account. People charged with murder can get any sentence from life in prison to simple probation if there are mitigating circumstances, and charges can be dropped from murder to manslaughter. I am sure the same thing would happen with this as well.

It'll never happen, for so many legal reasons.

The evangelical pipedream to stop abortion in America will be dead in less than a generation as they achieve minority status.

The most disgusting/ironic part of all of these new abortion laws in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and elsewhere is they are taking place primarily due to Trump's election and his stacking SCOTUS with Conservatives. Remember, Trump is a guy who begged Marla Maples to abort his very own love child, Tiffany. Trump doesn't give a crap about the unborn, he only cares about himself.

How kind of you to consider lesser punishments for something that isn’t a crime and you have no business judging another for.

Evangelicals are already a minority group. The only reason they have influence is because other religious hypocrites feel pressured by their peers to support what “god wants”.

So you want to protect what you feel is innocent life? Cool, then you may support the following...

A woman gets pregnant and sadly, the act of childbirth kills her 9 months later. There was no warning of it, no medical diagnosis and upon further examination, it is found that there was no fault on the part of the hospital, the doctor and those who gave the mother care. The only thing conclusive is that the birth of the child killed the mother...an innocent person whose life was ended by the child. The mother had no say in the matter.

The child should be found guilty of murder. But given that it is a child, and possibly mitigating circumstances, the charge of murder could be dropped to manslaughter, resulting in about 15 years in prison or life in prison as the harshest punishment.

Men have gone to jail for years for killing the unborn babies their sexual partners were carrying in spite of their displeasure. Why? Because murder is wrong.

"Pro-life" has got to be one of the biggest cons in history. Clearly "pro-life" people couldn't give a flying f*ck about life.

It's called involuntary termination, a form of manslaughter.

When women want their pregnancies it becomes homicide.

When they don't want their pregnancies it becomes abortion.

Women decide, not you.

It's a leftover of the Southern Strategy the Republicans used to save their dying party in the 60's. Don't worry, it'll be gone soon.

Seems it's increasing.

The internet is far from the liberating force it was hoped it would be. In fact it seems to make people more ignorant.
