What is it with you guys and abortion?? Why is this such a topic for you?? You never have to deal with it, I keep wondering why you feel you have the right to weigh in.

If I oppose abortions “before the end of the first trimester” doesn’t that mean I oppose abortion period?
I dont oppose abortion's legality at any point in gestation because elective late term abortions of near or viable unborn do not occur.
Even though I oppose all abortion, unlike democrats I'm willing to compromise to find a better policy that we currently have.

None of the above. My view is somewhat controversial.
I believe that failure to actively claim the child should void all rights and responsibilities, right to life, responsibility for child support, etc, and that personhood is only achieved upon being recognized by one's parents. The mother should have sole power of decision up to and immediately following the point of birth. After that, if neither parent claims the child, post birth abortion is implemented. Yes, I'm aware that is legalized murder. Historically this was done through exposure (non-action) to avoid the act of killing, but that would be needlessly harsh. A sedative or something similar would be kinder.
If both parents claim the child, they are assigned shared custody as well as all parental responsibilities. If only one parent claims the child, they get sole custody and responsibility, although they are free to make arrangements with the other parent. In all cases, once a child is claimed, it achieves personhood. Also, in all cases personhood can only be granted by the parents (or close family or their appointed proxies in their absence). The state cannot under any circumstance grant or withhold personhood. However, in cases where post birth abortion is not performed immediately, the child achieves natural personhood regardless of other circumstances, and all responsibilities revert to the parents/custodians.
There is another person who used to post here who had a very similar point of view. You are the only two I have seen in my 20+ years of debating abortion that have this view.
Out of curiosity, what did their "Lean:" tag say?
