Ben Carson warns 'morality of our society' at stake in abortion debate

I'm more than happy to see fewer people in general and the economy would adjust.

So there's no moral imperative in your post at all and I personally have no issues with fewer people.

Has no affect on me...humans arent going anywhere and once again: I believe in quality of life, not quantity.

I am not remotely interested in your general political views...your moral views regarding refusing compassionate release to terminal/severely damaged newborns turned my stomach enough...please stick strictly to the topic of abortion in this sub-forum.

Abortion can be traumatic. It can cause women to become psychologically traumatized. I have seen this condition with soldiers that return home. Often times you see a drastic change in their personality. They become distant, withdrawn, and even hypervigilant.

Mental health is an issue I care about. Women often times physically recover after abortion, but mentally, it is a different story. Women can suffer from clinical depression after a miscarriage. Mother's can suffer from empty nest syndrome. When a child dies the mother takes it much harder than the husband.

I remember some poster saying here that abortion is like getting a tooth pulled. I find that comment somewhat inaccurate. Going to the dentist can definitely be a traumatic experience, but abortion has much more emotional currency than getting your wisdom teeth removed.

Abortion does not affect the mental health of most women who terminate a pregnancy.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Ben Carson wasn't even qualified to be in charge of the HUD. The guy is a ****ing imbecile. This is a metaphysical question and a moral question more than it is a medical question, and being a surgeon gives you no particular insight into the question whatsoever.

But he since you seem to think what he said made sense let's analyze it anyway.

It would have required that "any health care practitioner present" at the time of a birth "exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age."

Alive is a key term here. The word he should have used instead was "healthy." The fact of the matter is that virtually every single solitary late-term abortion performed in the United States at this point in time is done almost exclusively for one of two reasons.

1.) the health of the mother is in danger. In that particular case, both the Mother and the Doctor will absolutely do everything in their power to keep the child alive because that's what the mother optimally wants.

2.) Complications with the birth have made it so that the child will not survive or live anything close to a healthy life outside the mother's womb. Generally, the fetus is malformed in one way or another and is going to die anyway. In this case, the doctor and the mother have decided that it makes more sense to simply terminate the pregnancy to prevent any further suffering from either the child or the parents. No reason to force a woman to carry a child for another two months and go through with a painful pregnancy when we know full well the child will not survive.

In the second case, the parents have broad discretion to make medical choices for their child. That includes the end of life decisions. If in the doctor's medical opinion the child is suffering and has no real chance of getting any better then the parents have every right to decide to ask for a do not resuscitate order.
