How can one begin at conception and the other after if you don't know the egg will split into two until it happens?
Some hindsight is involved - if no splitting occurs, then the conceived cell mass maintained its individual integrity from the point of conception. However, I will submit that during the first few days, the possibility of twinning suggests that during that few days' time, the individuality of the cell mass is not completely established.
