(Reuters) - A Florida judge on Tuesday permanently blocked and declared unconstitutional a law requiring a woman to delay an abortion by at least 24 hours after making a visit to a doctor who would have to inform her of possible risks of the procedure.

“Florida law subjects no other medical procedure, including those that pose greater health risks than abortion, to a mandatory delay,” Circuit Judge Terry Lewis wrote in his judgment.

The state constitution includes a directive from citizens to their government to stay out of their personal matters unless there is good reason, Lewis said. “And it’s hard to imagine a more private, personal matter ... as the decision whether or not to terminate a pregnancy,” he said. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...y-law-rules-it-unconstitutional-idUSKBN1EZ00Y

Good. The govt should not be practicing medicine. That is for doctors to do.

Agreed.

I'm no fan of abortion, but I'm willing to accept it as the law of the land. And I'm sick & tired of Republican manipulation of law & regulation to carry-out their social wars ...

I am sick of the feminists taking so little interest in the issue, whom ever makes their priority list is surely ****ed in the head.

The same concept should be applied to requiring admitting privileges for MD and proximity to that hospital for abortions to occur. If the law requires similar requirements for non abortion procedures with similar safety profiles - fine. Otherwise, it is a sham.

OF course, it seems many republicans are also against something that will reduce abortion too.. like many forms of birth control, or sex education.

Could a mod please fix the title? I meant it to be the title of the article, not the link. Thanks!

Sometimes I have to wonder if the antiabortion crowd is not infiltrated by secret prolifers?? how else would it explain how stupid some of the things they try are? I mean how could they not understand that retarded laws and rules like this will eventually fail and STRENGTHEN prochoice rights. Are some of them really that stupid?

Just like with gay marriage they just kept making law after law after ordnance after rule against gays getting slapped over and over and over again in the courts until equal rights and marriage rights got STRONGER.

if they keep making transparent laws and rules that are not backed up by any logic, facts or the medical science community like this the same thing will keep happening. Those laws will eventually fail and not pass the test of time. Im not complaining because it is helping rights and freedom but its hard to fathom they dont see it LMAO

Also FYI incase i wasnt clear this is not about ALL prolifers just some, many out there are quit sound.

I disagree.

The government should be telling women how many children that they should have or not have. People are reproducing at the rate of rabbits. Women need to be educated about the cost of pregnancy in terms or raising children and the medical risk/cost of child birth.

It is vital to do so.

as long as those women are able to adequately care and provide for those birthed children, i agree with you

When you say these women, you the mean the government providing welfare and social programs, correct?

i mean that the parents are able to care and provide for the children they have
if they cannot, then they should not have the child

That’s always a given. But unfortunately don’t live in a perfect world. But in any case, government shouldn’t determine decisions about how women make their reproductive choices.

I’ll never vote for you for any Office that will allow you to participate in that type of decision that would substantially diminish women’s right to choose.

On the other hand, if you’re in favor of all newborn males given a reversible vasectomy because they leave the hospital - I might vote for you.
