Supreme Court lifts block on Wisconsin 'cocaine mom' law during appeal

The answer for drug moms are mandatory sterilization after the first drug baby. Babies' chances of survival outweigh the right of a woman to have a child.

What about the men who knock them up?

I would never go for mandatory sterilization. That would infringe on bodily autonomy.

The theory of "bodily autonomy" fails when its effects hurts the communal interest of health and welfare of others.

Why go after the man when he is not the one that is causing harm to the child?

You didn't answer my question. What about the men who knock them up?

How is that even part of the equation, assuming she even knows who he is? His drug use is not affecting the well-being of the fetus.

It's possible that Scrab is referring to men who impregnate multiple women with no repercussions. Although I agree that is a problem, and I would certainly advocate sterilizing any man who fathers even one child he cannot or refuses to pay for, it's not really germane to the conversation, re: mothers who pollute their womb with illegal drugs and then give birth to addicted kids.

It should be legal to buy or sell or use cocaine.

It should never be legal to force your kids to consume cocaine.

This woman should be detained.

And here we have it, ladies and gents - it's all on the woman. The man can do what he wants, but god forbid the woman do what *she* wants.

I sure did. I said the theory is a fail. Thus . . . you fill in the blank. Nah, I will: sterilize.

IOW, you want it to be all on the woman. Thankfully, you cannot forcibly sterilize people in today's society.

He is not responsible for her drug use. Yes, he shouldn't have had sex with a drug addict, but that doesn't make him responsible for her actions while she is pregnant.

Uhhh... HE'S NOT FORCING COCAINE ON HIS KID. SHE IS.

Jesus Haploid Christ.

He chose to screw an addict without protection.

Agreed. But, after that, his connection to the addict or her baby probably ended. He certainly cannot be held accountable for poisoning the womb, even if he stuck around and fed her drugs. A rather unlikely scenario unless she provided him with the drugs by prostituting herself and he hung around for the free dope while pretending to be her protection.

Can you show where I said he is responsible for her actions while she is pregnant?

The context was about the guy, Scrabaholic. Sterilize him. And the courts would uphold such legislation, imo.

It takes two to tango. If you are going to enact mandatory sterilization, it should apply to him as well.

Why? The case is not over them having sex, but over her using drugs when pregnant.

If the bio dad is using drugs ...yes his drug use does affect the well-being of the fetus.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It looks like we are going ahead with the detainment of a pregnant woman in Wisconsin.

As I understand the injuction, it will not grant courts the power to force pregnant women to give birth. It is possible instead that it is part of a broader "slippery slope" which will lead to that conclusion.

This is just business as usual in the so-called 'war on drugs.' Still, it's too bad that drug users have to risk losing their civil rights.

Don;t know all the ins and outs of this law, Ill have to look it up but it's a perfect example of why personhood will never be granted at conception because its completely illogical, insane and voids women of rights.

Anyway i could easily support a law like this if its PROPERLY AND VERY CLEARLY WRITTEN with restrictions timelines etc cleanly defined (again dont know the ins and outs of this law so I cant comment)

You should be aware that women taking cocaine before pregnancy disrupts hormonal balance and menstrual cycle, can damage the fallopian tubes, and can damage the eggs.

In short, moving the goal posts to create equality here isn't going to work because it will result in even more action being done to the woman.
