Here we go....more banner overreach.

Ohio is poised to become the third state to pass a law outlawing abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, generally about six weeks into pregnancy.

Majority Republicans in the Ohio Senate engineered passage of the so-called Heartbeat Bill by a 21-10 vote today after it was amended into an unrelated House-passed bill dealing with child abuse. House Bill 493 returns to the House for concurrence with Senate changes, expected to come later today. The House has twice previously approved the ban but both times it failed to clear the Senate.

And, to think, people have actually tried to argue that Republicans would not be banning abortion.

Gambling on the time it takes challenges to work their way up to SCOTUS and the probabilities regarding the number of justices Trump might get to appoint....

Don't forget the pres also appoints appellate judges. And, this time, we know congress will not be blocking those appointments.

I think the only hope for pro-choice is more GOP overreach finally waking people up and choosing not to keep putting so many into office. But, that's certainly not happening yet.

It's wonderful that this is passing in Ohio.

Finally some progress to turn back the regressive barbarity.

It is indeed true that they appoint other federal judges, but I cannot imagine that a law like this would simply get left standing at the circuit level. It's a direct contradiction of Roe if it bans abortions after about six weeks, and a huge one at that.

And here I thought libertarians were supposed to be against government dictating citizens' lives.....

Is there some secret caveat that this only applies so long as government wants to do something the individual libertarian making noises just happens to personally disagree with? On one specific set of religious terms?

Oh the horror. Heaven forbid any restrictions against ripping live human beings from the womb, and dashing their little heads against the nearest tree.

There are countless people who call themselves 'libertarians' but haven't the first clue what it actually means or what the philosophy is about.

Good..

6 weeks is still too much though..

No libertarian can support aggressive violence against human beings and still call themselves a libertarian.

Libertarians neither support nor protest abortion. They are indifferent to anything that doesn't personally affect them

The initiation of force is wrong.

You don't know what you're talking about. Again.

This might... just might be, an Appeal to Emotion.

Just a "guess".

Yep/ Lots and lots of Republicans in Libertarian clothes.

I'm not sure if it's simply rank dishonesty or stupidity that makes people pretend their libertarians (or Libertarians, for that matter).

It takes the courage of one's convictions to adhere to the non-aggression principle, and I don't see very many Republicans (or conservatives, esp.) doing that.

The initiation of force is wrong.

You don't know what you're talking about. Again.

By preventing a woman from choosing an abortion, you are initiating force against her.

Why do you pretend to be a libertarian/Libertarian?

Abortion should be legal until birth... it is morally right.

No it is not, abortion isn't morally right in the first place period..

Anything over a week and you are wanting to kill toddlers..

1 week, emergency situations, that's one thing..

The day before birth? Why? How? No excuse for that **** except terrible people..

Those legislators are morons. This won't pass a court challenge.

There are very few women that know that they are pregnant within one week... holy hell you have no idea how this even works.

And a toddler is a kid that is born,... AND THAT IS BEGINNING TO WALK. You know a lot of toddlers stroller around the womb?

I don't think that matters if enough judges want to approve it.

It's also a huge pile of bovine excrement.

I know that people can bash a head... but "dash" a head? I mean, I know that it is English and works but it sounds silly.

Depends on the judges. If they can repeal voter protection laws, they can chip away at Roe. No problem. Piece of cake.
