Supreme Court strikes down Texas abortion clinic restrictions

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled resoundingly for abortion rights advocates in the court's most important decision on the controversial issue in 25 years, striking down abortion-clinic restrictions in Texas that are similar to those enacted across the country. Justice Anthony M. Kennedy joined the court's liberals in the 5- to-3 decision, which said Texas's argument that the restrictions were meant to protect women's health was merely cover for making abortions harder to obtain.

The Texas provisions required doctors who perform abortions at clinics to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and ordered clinics to meet hospital-like standards of surgical centers. "The surgical center requirement, like the admitting-privileges requirement, provides few, if any, health benefits for women, poses a substantial obstacle to women seeking abortions, and constitutes an 'undue burden' on their constitutional right to do so," Justice Stephen G. Breyer wrote for the majority………..

Passing laws to deny a person his/her constitutional right is wrong and finally now unconstitutional.
The Anti-abortion folks took it a few steps over the line called “reasonable and fair” and even without Scalia to descent justice won 5-3

I'm sorry. I had thought you had done one of the threads yesterday. But all three were by someone else.

I posted this topic yesterday in the "Abortion Forum". It was posted in the "Breaking News Forum" as well.

No biggie to me.

But this decision made by the S.C., no matter where it's been posted in DP, will quickly die. Pro-life simply have nothing to add, discuss, or debate about this decision.

There's been a number of challenges to go before the S.C. related to the outcome of Roe v Wade, which have gone nowhere.

Women, who are by circumstance of birth, has the reproductive organ that supports the co-creation of another human life.

My question is: Why should women should be legally mandated to reproduce against their will? Men aren't.

Are you aware that many of the abortions today are medically necessary; and not those the anti-abortions characterizing the pregnancy as a result of a loose woman

And interesting enough...it is never about the "loose" men.:lamo

Uhmmmm, yes. But that's really not important because under the stage of "viability" a woman needs zero reason for having an abortion. In other words, it doesn't matter what the moral stance is by pro-life advocates regarding "legal medical procedures". Prior to viability, abortion is a "legal medical procedure".

Nah....women cause their fare share.

IMHO.......not as much as men........What we need is a presidential ticket of 2 women so I might rest easy at night...........some men are loose cannons ...........not mentioning any names........

Supreme Court rejects two new abortion cases

“The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday let stand lower court rulings that blocked restrictions on doctors who perform abortions in Mississippi and Wisconsin a day after the court struck down a similar measure in Texas.

The laws in both states required doctors to have admitting privileges, a type of difficult-to-obtain formal affiliation, with a hospital within 30 miles (48 km) of the abortion clinic. Both were put on hold by lower courts. The Mississippi law would have shut down the only clinic in the state if it had gone into effect………

Supreme Court Declines to Hear Pharmacy's Religious Objections Case

“The U.S. Supreme Court declined Tuesday to take up a challenge to a Washington state law that makes it illegal for pharmacies to refuse to dispense medications for religious reasons.

The court's action, bypassing an invitation to wade back into the issues of religion and contraception, allows the state to enforce the law. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito called the court's refusal to hear the case "an ominous sign."

The case involved a small family-owned business whose owners objected to stocking birth control pills………

I do not remember when the court ruled on this number of cases on abortion and related issues……
Remarkable IMHO

Will be interesting to see how the states rightists react to this.
