If his supporters can overlook this then I think it's safe to say the Republican party is now officially ****ed.

May as well just call it the Trump Party and apply for actual religious cult status.

The president handled it badly by falsely claiming it was nothing serious. You can acknowledge the threat and still try to calm people without contradicting the basic premise. You still don't start a panic as a leader by screaming the sky is falling. You right 1/2 the deaths in my state could have been prevented if the local democratic leaders had protected our most vulnerable instead of sending infected patients back to over crowded nursing homes. People acting responsibly could have prevent a fair amount of the other half. But we had protesters, parties, and even Pelosi encouraging people to come to Chinatown and spread the virus. You just can't fix stupid even as president.

My aunt that died from Covid-19 got it in her nursing home. If better management of the disease in places like that had occurred then she probably wouldn't have died.

On the other hand one of my middle sisters closest friends is dying of pancreatic cancer. Her cancer diagnosis was delayed for fully three months because of the worries about Corona-19. Doctors would not see and test her to determine what was hurting her. I'm sure those three months have cut a lot out of her lifespan.

Finally, notice that no one mentions impeachment. It stands to reason that

1) If President Trump had not had to fight impeachment then an earlier response to the virus might've happened.
2) In the aftermath of trying to kick the president out of office, Democrats were never going to support any kind of massive effort on his part to try and stop the spread of the virus across the U.S.

I know this doesn't resonate with radicals like you but what was going on in January 2020 and what would the left had claimed had Trump been "chicken little?" You want badly to blame Trump ignoring as usual state and local responsibilities
