Pennsylvania asks court to allow ballots to be received three days after Election Day due to Postal

To be clear, the request here isn’t to let Pennsylvania voters mail ballots after polls close. They need to be postmarked before then. The request is to have the court extend the deadline for when ballots need to be received in order to be counted, which by law is 8 p.m. on Election Day. Right now, the Postal Service recommends that ballots be mailed a full week before Election Day, i.e. October 27, in order to ensure that they’re received on time. But Pennsylvania law allows voters to *apply* for a ballot up until October 27. That means many voters won’t even have ballots in hand until after the USPS’s recommended deadline.

Is it unconstitutional? Trump is undercutting the USPS and his toadie is having them shut down functioning sorting machines. The USPS has sent out letters that delivery can be delayed. What PA is asking for isn't for people to be able to vote 3 days past the election, all mail-in ballots would need to be post-marked by then. But they are asking to be able to receive ballots mailed prior to election day up to 3 days past the election day in order to account for Trump's attempt to undercut mail-in voting.

The fix is what Trump is doing to the USPS.

It’s naked, open and clear cheating in broad daylight that could be a more critical moment in the countries history than you realize.

This is the moment to stand up and be counted.

If you can’t speak against this clear and obvious attempt to rob your fellow citizens of their vote, deplorable isn’t a kind enough word for you.

Gloves off.

If you can’t speak against this clear and obvious attempt to rob your fellow citizens of their vote, you are scum.

Silence is complicity

This is how democracy dies.

Apdst once argued for a permanent right wing party majority to run the government. I am not surprised he can’t condemn this. He cares about party more than country and constitution.

Ap doesn't need facts, just judgements. I've decided that those who feel safe voting in person should do so, to take the burden off of the post office, since Trump is focusing his election sabotage there. I'm hoping that the same day results at the polls show Biden ahead. It'll be fun to watch Trump suddenly become a fan of mail in votes.

New Postmaster Hasn't Yet Met Officials About Mail-In Ballots : NPR

NPR has learned that a bipartisan group of secretaries of state, who are responsible for running elections, requested to meet this week with postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, who was appointed to the job in May. But that meeting has yet to be scheduled.

"Unfortunately, [we] still haven't had a direct conversation with the U.S. postmaster," New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver told NPR Thursday. "Hopefully, we will soon."

...

It was not clear why the invitation has yet to be accepted, but those familiar with the exchange said the delay is unusual, considering that election officials will begin sending out absentee ballots as soon as September.

Undercutting the USPS, cutting hours and overtime pay, restricting pickups, turning off sorting machines. And the Postmaster General won't eve meat with Election Officials to discuss these problems.

It's more than clear that Trump and his Toadies are trying to kill mail-in voting in an attempt to suppress the vote.

You're lying. Don't make the thread about me and lie, too...lol

Well Colorado has mail-in voting, so I'll still be voting by mail. However, I will be using our many many secure drop-boxes to turn it in.

When your country transitions to mail in ballots, then you can cry.

It's unconstitutional for the court to change law. Yes. You know that.

I just posted facts, but you're too busy taking personal shots to notice.

Is it unconstitutional to muck around with the elections for one's personal gain? Or is that part cool?

The fix is being prepared. PA is going so far as to ask the court to change the law, which is unconstitutional.

1. Declaring an election illegitimate (if I lose).
2. Sending jack-booted thugs into cities to impose authorization rule.
3. Having your legal system declare you immune from indictment.
4. Undermining free and fair elections.
5. Lying to citizens with no regard to their health and security.
6. Attempting to deligitimize the free press.

Bottom line - attempting to turn this nation into a banana republic. Democrats wouldn't tolerate any of these things from a Democratic leader. Today's morally bankrupt right has lost their way <smh>.

7. You're off topic.

As long as they are postmarked on election day, I wouldn't care, though that would require the people who allegedly can't stand in line at their polling place to stand in a longer slower line at the USPS

Why? You can simply put it in your mailbox. Do you go to the post office every time you have to mail a letter?

7. You're off topic.

Oh, I left out:

- Using your justice department to retaliate against your political enemies
- Declaring yourself as someone who has "total authority".

I do when it needs to be stamped with the date. Not all mail gets a postmark on them.

This stunt by the dictator wannabe is really blowing up in his face.

American's don't like naked attempts to supress votes.

Coulda fooled me.

About 40% of the nation seems to find it a perfectly acceptable behaviour.

This thread isn't about Trump.

There are specific forms of mail that do not get postmarked such as metered mail or precanceled stamps. But I'm not sure why that would apply to mailing your ballot back. Most people aren't going to drop them off at the post office.

Then they better mail them before the day after election day once they know where the dems need extra votes to win.

That's not how it works, your ballot is for your district. You don't get to ship it around. But you know that, you're just making a ridiculous argument because you have nothing left to argue.
