Companies plan massive layoffs as Obamacare becomes reality

LOL. Wait so lets think about this from a business prospective. If you are a thriving company and you need to meet demand, do you do massive layoff because healthcare? No. you need to stay competitive. I believe that these companies found a more efficient way of running their business and they are using Obamacare as a scapegoat to do massive layoff so they don't look like the bad guy. If they truly need these employees then they would never do a massive layoff. It is common sense.

No, they downgrade their employees to part time and hire a few more part timers. Nobody gets company benefits at that level.

LOL, whatever. Learn business.

Our calculations are that, with the anticipated new taxes and Obamacare costs, a $40,000 administrative assistant will now cost us an additional $13,000 per year to employ. Multiply that ratio across 280 full-time employees....and it changes our business model altogether.

Then, you take into account the personal tax hit to the ownership, and the risk isn't worth taking for him...unless we make the necessary reductions in force and cost to keep the margins viable.

The same conversation is happening in thousands upon thousands of companies across the country. This is what happens when a president who has never had a real job makes a decision he isn't experienced enough to understand.

PICKET: Companies plan massive layoffs as Obamacare becomes reality - Washington Times

Similar meetings have been held at my company already. There's tough news headed to 15% of our company right after the holidays. Oh, goody, I can't wait to deliver that news.

Our margins simply don't support the increases in per-employee-cost that Obamacare is going to bring on us, especially with the massive tax increases headed toward our business from the upcoming tax hikes.

Way too much attention is being paid to individual tax increases. It's small and medium size businesses that are going to be killed by all this. It won't be the wealthy that pay the lion's share of the new taxes, it'll be businesses. So that means layoffs, folks, and lots of them.

Unemployment is going to skyrocket, and a second and much deeper recession is likely right behind it.

This does nothing but highlight the reasons why we need to institute a national health care service or expand Medicare to all rather than rely on employers to provide health insurance to people.

You don't even want to know the level of witch doctors that will produce.

So? The issue here isn't witch doctors. The issue here is employers limiting hiring because of burdens to pay health insurance to their employees.

And just who do you think is going to pay for that national healthcare service?

Detailed tax reform that lowers rates, reduces exemptions, and expands the tax base.

Fire the Obama voters... they should learn what costs come with Socialism and they can experience how government will take good care of them.
Yeah, fire more of those Obama voters. Then cut welfare. Then complain when the rest of you are the only ones paying taxes and nobody respects your "success." Then tell the starving, freezing, and angry voters its their own fault. You may end up proving their point more than your own.

Excellent. Optimistic, longterm companies will hiire those workers and expand, while the rightwing types will go out of business.

Let help you understand this since it seems either you're really young or are quite ignorant on how a business is run.

Lest say you have 150 employees. You currently don't offer healthcare or have a plan that may not necessarily align with the Obamacare requirements. So, as a business owner, you have to see what this new overhead is going to cost you. So in a robust economy, might be able to absorb it, maybe not depending on the nature of your business. But in this stagnant economy, you either as the owner of the business, work for free or find a way to offset the increase. You do this by reducing payroll costs so either you cut wages or lay off until the expense is balanced into your overhead budget.

Sort of like the Red States................Romney himself said "...the choices a society makes about its culture play a role in creating prosperity..."

Daily Kos: Romney Reductio Ad Absurdum, "Red States Have Bad Culture"

Yeah, and cost of living in those states you seem to think is so enlightened is in some instances twice as much as the ones on the "bottom." Take a look at want a single family house costs in Massachusetts, New York or Connecticut compared to lets say, Georgia, South Carolina, or Montana.

Yeah, fire more of those Obama voters. Then cut welfare.
Welfare has been expanded. Welfare reform eliminated due to Obama fiat.

Hey... if Obama thinks his policies creates jobs and prosperity... go for it... but when THE MARKET say F@CK YOU... then let Obama explain why his policies have been a smashing failure. He won't... because he knows he is a failure; the debates showed someone not even willing or able to defend his dismal record. Hence the Vagina Monologues and a bunch of dumb vagina's actually bought his BS. Then there were other morons worried about Creationists. With so many retards... you get Obama.

Perhaps people need learn the hard way. You get the government you elected... and I think democrats should be the first sacrificial lambs. If our family company had to lay people off... I'd look to fire D's first. It's legally risky, but there are ways to do this. I have zero to do with the family business... I've got my own, but that's what I'd do.

Then complain when the rest of you are the only ones paying taxes and nobody respects your "success." Then tell the starving, freezing, and angry voters its their own fault. You may end up proving their point more than your own.
You get the government you voted for. If you want a top down socialist state... then let the government take care of you and in the process bankrupt the country financially and morally. We're basically split 50-50... some people might sober up when they realize socialism fails everywhere it is tried.

A Parasite Nation can only survive so long.

And just who do you think is going to pay for that national healthcare service?

I have lived in a number of Socialist states. My extended family has over 20 MD's... a family business. The younger generation have been screwed by the systems... one is a guy who has a background in research, surgery, sport medicine and is a GP. He left the country because the government told him he couldn't do x-rays, small surgery, etc. He was barely surviving ( a garbage collector made more money; no joke), and finally packed it in and moved to Switzerland.

There he can do everything he is trained for and has his own pharmacy. Now... 4 or 5 years later he's prosperous... as he should be.

Funny thing... the "state" paid for almost all his training... and now it's gone... as well as a helluva MD. The guy loved his job and it showed, but because government saw his profession as an expense... they screwed him and so many other MD's. What incentive is that to go to school for 7 to 10-years, and take on massive responsibility?

In time, we will have a medical system as poor as Canada, Britain, Germany, Sweden and France... all thanks to the Democrats Parasite Nation. And people will look back think the the insurance companies were a wonderful dream... because when the government tells you to f@ck off... you have zero recourse.

Too many Americans are blind... and that breeds the Democrats Parasite Nation.

I am so glad companies driven by rightwing ideology are giving up. Hopefully they will leave and go to Somalia.

That will leave the rest of us to expand and prosper.
All companies not run by the government are right-wing.

We really need to find some way to impeach him.

The OP is right wing BS. All of these medical device companies are firing workers because of a 10% tax on medical devices? Really? Are they stupid? They will need to hire them back, and more, when 30 million American gain access to health insurance. They can pass all or most of the cost of the tax on to their customers, who in this case are insurance companies.

Dana Holding Co. a victim of Obama's policies? Really? An auto parts manufacturer? How gullible are you people? This company would have been bankrupt three years ago if Obama hadn't bailed out GM and Chrysler. In 2009 they're stock was valued at 0.19. Under Obama it has risen more than 1,200%. Yeah, that's 1,200%. Obama been bery bery bad to me!

I think this should be solved by lowering taxes for companies or making health care costs a tax deduction on the companies taxes. Companies will benefit by healthier employees and happier employees who have health coverage.

Companies can already deduct their contributions.
