Question for those that think Republicans lost for not embracing the Tea Party

You asked about the Republicans loss. The Republicans lost because the people who didn't vote for them didn't have any interest in balanced budgets, stopping the tax hikes, stopping pork spending, etc.

Not so much. We just know that the Republicans' and Tea Party's platforms don't actually do anything to accomplish those goals. This election had nothing to do with "government spending" vs "not government spending". It was between "government spending entirely on big business and the rich" and "government spending mostly on big business and the rich." The latter is the platforms that won.

To the OP, the Tea Party's platform is... it's not terrible. It's naive and simplistic, especially when it comes to the flat tax ideas. The whole "starve the beast" notion that they embrace would cause a lot of damage along the way. How many bright young minds of the future wouldn't be nurtured without funding for their education? How much would science and technology in this country falter without the massive spending that the government does to fund research and development? The answer always seems to be "private business will fund it", but that doesn't actually happen. Private businesses take far fewer risks, because a bad investment can kill a company. Bad investments don't destroy the government, since it is backed by the entire nation's infrastructure. And bad investments are the cost of attempting to innovate. Some ideas are good, some ideas are bad, and you have to work hard on a lot of ideas without knowing which are which to find out. That is a big part of the picture that would starve along with the beast.

The Tea Party's message is "government is always bad." Usually when confronted, they except the military from this maxim. But it's a stupid maxim. Government is sometimes bad. Sometimes it's the best tool for the job. The Tea Party's message is unattractive because it takes these black and white hardline stances in a world that's really shades of grey.

The problem is not the contract. the problem is the tea party is completelyu against freedom and choice.

The tea party wants to take abortion away entirely under religious reasons. That is respecting a religion and is forbidden by the constituion.

The tea party wants to ban gay marriage for biblcal reasons, which again violates the separation of church and state since the marriage contract is federally recognized and receives federal benefits denied to gays.

The tea party wants to reject programs to lower pollution. i don't care if you believe in global warming or not, pollution is a problem even without it, and we can make things cleaner.

The tea party is anti many groups that make up america. they are pro-white and are as close to white supremist as you can get without joining the klan. I can see why that may turn off many people.

the claims they made up are ok, and some are not terrible ideas, but they don't play for any of those. they focus on prejudicial social policies and the adoption of christian value systems and even the making of an official US religion. they are the radical right, and they have turned away from their small government roots by trying to enforce these large government prejudicial ideals that cost a ton and don't accomplish the goals. Even the republicans are turning away from their fail. I actually think if the reps would let the crazies go tea party and then come to the middle ground more they would become a viable party again and actually suck in enough disgruntled dems and independents to win. Let the tea party be a third party in obscurity where it belongs.

What does the Constitution have to do with the Tea's nothing. They think their power came from God. The lunes who lost are proof of how far out the TEA s are

By the way good post tererum

I just want to first say that your all's posts largely confuse me. After all....I asked:

I was responding because you posted the "Contract for America" (or whatever its called) and you claimed that this is what the movement "is supposedly all about" and i simply just stated, "Any organizations can give you a "contract" or "constitution" but the Tea Parties is which many tea party elected members did not live up too." as a response.

Please, please, please conservatives -- continue to embrace tea party lunacy.

The TP--with it bottomless pit of deranged bigots--serves as an efficient form of black propoganda that can very effectively be used against the GOP in upcoming elections :)

And your comments could be used an effective source of propaganda by the GOP to claim how most liberals think... which they do not. Unfortunately, if enough people believe that, you might single-handledly cause an exodus from liberalism.

They will come around to thinking that way. Obama (who is not a liberal) definitely has. He played dirty to win the election, and it worked :)

But as of now, I'm one of the few classical liberals w/an enormously sadistic mind when it comes to politics. I have one rule--do whatever it takes to win, or in other words, the end justifies the means.

Manipulating people to acquire votes is an important skill. And right wingers are especially easy to manipulate. If they weren't, rush limbaugh wouldn't have become one of their key Messiahs.
