I wasn't surprised by the POTUS outcome but I was surprised by:

- It not being as close as I thought it was be. I thought Obama would win Ohio but probably not Virgina or Florida (at the time of this posting Florida is still not official but leans Obama). I didn't expect him to win Colorado.

- Allen West being defeated

- The East Coast states of Virginia and Florida being the LAST to be declared when they should have been the first due to time zone.

- Voters in South Florida still in line waiting to vote at 11pm.

- Mitt Romney not conceding until 1am and thus the President not being able to give his victory speech until 2am when everybody knew who won by 11 something-PM.

- Fox Broadcast Network and Fox News Channel being relatively impartial in their coverage.

- Fox Broadcast Network and Fox News Channel offering separate programming.

- MSNBC offering IMHO superior coverage than the NBC Broadcast Network (not in terms of commentary slant but overall quality of presentation).

- The downgrading of the video enhancements, animated graphics and special effects on all the networks compared to 2008 and 2004.

Sorry for the typo in the thread title.

I was surprised by Puerto Rico's vote for statehood. I wasn't even thinking about it.

Grayson back in the House and Brown's loss in MA.

Actually it had nothing to do with who won or lost. But how CNN handled the whole thing. I was impressed and learned alot as to how the media (non biased) can make their predictions with so little of the vote counted.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Murdouck and Akin loosing. Too bad Bachman, Ryan and that jerk from Texas didn't

Bachmann didn't win by much...it will be interesting to watch the house...they lost a few seats to the Democrats even though they retain the majority.

Me too.

But what may turn out to be the biggest surprise is that, despite the Republicans keeping control of the House, the Democrats may wind up winning the House popular vote for only the second time since WWII. This would the result, in large part, of the Republicans' aggressive redistricting efforts.

Diane Sawyer's crazy behavior. It was pure entertainment.

I was surprised that Obama didn't win Ohio sooner, and that Romney lost Virginia. Other than that, not much.

Could you explain this a little further and/or link to someplace where a tally of the "House popular vote" is being calculated?

That was almost as good as karl roves meltdown on fox, when he seen all the money he thought would by an election was for naught.:2wave:

The fact that we could soon have a 51st state, the support of gay marriage in various states, and the legalization of pot in Colorado.

We can't have 51 States, it won't fit on the flag. If Puerto Rico wants to become a State, they need to find enough new States to make a row or column.

i had several. in no particular order :

i was surprised that i basically had a pretty good idea of the final outcome by 9:30 pm or so.

the people in my state obviously didn't just vote straight ticket. while one party won a lot of votes, there were individual races where the other party won. i found this to be a relief. i dislike having straight party ticket as an option. every voter should have to go through and click the names of the individual candidate.

a statewide school official was voted out and replaced by a lesser known candidate that i voted for. i didn't think she had a chance, and i was pleasantly surprised.

pot ballot initiatives passed

same sex marriage passed in two states.

I'm not sure where to find the count, but it's something that was mentioned on the Princeton election site. Basically it would be the equivalent of the president winning the electoral college but losing the popular vote.

It would look like this.

As opposed to this.
