I mentioned in another thread that my fiance and I went to the BMV to update our address last year and they supposedly updated our voters registration for us. When we checked online, we found we were not registered to vote at our address. One of my fiance's friends just informed us she could not vote because she also updated her address at the BMV and registered to vote, only to find out they failed to do so.

I sent this info to my local TV station and I'm hoping they launch an investigation. It's likely that hundreds, if not more, people found out today they were not registered to vote when they thought they had done so at the BMV.

For the record, I made my trip to the polls and cast my ballot.

Another alarming issue...in Indiana, if you were convicted of a felony and you served your sentence, your right to vote is restored. We talked to several people we know that are in this position and they were told they were not allowed to vote because they had a felony. This is absolutely terrible. I have no idea how many people have been told a lie like this. I would be extremely pissed if I was one of the people told that I couldn't vote and then find out that I can.

How would you feel on election day if you went to vote and found out you weren't registered when you thought you were?

Update: I was contacted by my local TV station and I am going to be interviewed tomorrow.

Read 'em the riot act!

the law in most states says that the loss of voting priviledges only applies to federal felons.

To answer your question, I would not go to the media I would go to the County registrar first, then the county DA and then the state AG.

I heard some Republicans complaining in Florid that they showed up to find out that records showed they had already voted in the absentee voting.

Neither situation is ok, although I don't share much sympathy for the convicted felons you mentioned.

Why do you know so many felons?

Is the right restored by default for felons? My guess is that someone has to put it in a computer somewhere and they just have not done that--probably due to budget cuts--unless you have to take steps on your own that were not taken upon completion of the sentence.

We have friends from all walks of life. Being involved in AA, you meet a lot of felons. I also know a few from a father's rights coalition I'm a member of.

Just trying for a funny. I am sure you are a good person and might be a neighbor. I am very close to Indy.

Felon Voting ProCon.org -- Should felons be allowed to vote? In Indiana, if you are no longer in jail or prison, your right to vote is restored. Few states have permanent disenfranchisement.

No hard feelings. :)

Edit: I'm on the near east side, I'm sure many of my neighbors are felons too, but we don't talk to them much. We have lots of great neighbors as well and we tend to hang out with them instead.

Watch the news and tell us what helix looks like. For example, is he really a yawning cat?

Edit: Misread

I would have thought, "Damn, I need to follow up and confirm something this important and not take someone else's word for it."

I almost didn't check my voter's registration. At the end of September I went online and saw all of my old information on file and updated it immediately.

As far as the law regarding felons and voting, they do their best here to misinform people so the state will stay red. Dirty politics. It's assumed that all felons are going to vote democratic. 4 of the people I talked to that thought they couldn't vote would have voted republican. That's 4 votes less for Romney.

I'll have to watch for that. I'm in your neck of the woods.

I checked my registration status online multiple times. I didn't have any reason to think they'd remove me, but there are an increasing number of obstacles being put in the way of voters lately.

Damn Panthers.

I'm just happy that the State where I was born and raised and still refer to as home corrected their mistake from 2008 and voted Romney.

Another update: The news station never bothered to contact me. I'm guessing it would have been news a month ago, but since the election is over, it's no longer news. Oh well.

I did... it sucked... and it was ultra embarrasing, too, because I went with like 6 ppl.. and I had to sit outside after getting stopped, and wait for them to vote, and then go back and have to answer all the questions...

This whole election process absolutely sucks... We need to get the voting process straightened out...

This election was so close, with 40-50K votes being all that separated multiple states... That with all the absentee ballots, early voting, provisional ballots, dead voters, turned back voters, duplicate voters, fraud, electioneering, intimidation, deception, etc. This could have been a tampered election, and I think it warrants a recount... Not so much because I think the end result would change, but to see if we can identify where the fraud lies, and if there is a significant impact on the election...

In the coming days I will make a post outlining what I think ought to be done to reform the voting process entirely...

However, for this thread, good luck with getting your problem known...

You are not alone, I have seen numerous things this election which have been identified and not dealt with that bother the crap out of me... they ought to be addressed...
