Displaced NJ Voters Allowed to Vote by Email | NBC New York

New Jersey election officials say they will allow registered voters to vote electronically and will also accept ballots paper through Monday, November 19th, as long as they are postmarked by election day, November 5.

The directive is intended to help first responders whose recovery efforts may keep them away from home and their local polling place on election day, as well as those displaced by the storm.

"To help alleviate pressure on polling places, we encourage voters to either use electronic voting or the extended hours at county offices to cast their vote,” said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno.

Gov. Christie said Friday that his administration is making sure residents have opportunities to vote, even if their polling station is without power or no longer exists. The state is also allowing residents to drop by their county clerk's office to vote, and created a special text number for voters to see if their polling place is still open.

The electronic voting process is used by overseas residents and service members, but this is the first time New Jersey has allowed voters in the state to vote this way.

We can't have people voting! This is terrible!

I can't wait for this to join the excuse parade. You know it will.

Depends on which way it goes :) If Obama wins, it was the right thing to do; if he does not win the state, it was a giant right wing conspiracy by the GOP to make people think they were voting when they really were not. What would be funny would be if they are the deciding state and it is so close we have to wait until Nov. 20 to know who won.

It's going to be an excuse no matter who wins. Something about "Obama deliberately slowed FEMA so he could win." Or "christie endorsed Romney an wanted to help him." Or "Christie and Obama sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G."

The possiilities are endless...

NJ is going to Obama. It is not even going to be close. RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - New Jersey: Romney vs. Obama

It's far better than the first time I voted back in the early '90s. This is completely true. I was forced to declare which party I was voting for before I voted. After I voted, a republican woman working at the polling center took my paper ballot and put it in a box labeled "only to be counted if there is a recount requested." She said it was within her rights to put voter's ballots aside based on the person voting.

That was pure BS and I didn't know any better to report it back then. Consequently, it made me feel like my vote would never count in an election because they could withhold my vote if they felt like it. Thankfully the process has evolved since then and people can't get away with that crap.

Could you imagine NJ going red! There'd be lawsuits up the wazoo!

Well in that case, Obama clearly has promised Christie a major cabinet position--like Hillary's or the Sec Def once they find their Benghazi scapegoat--and Christie is fixing the election for his beach blanket bingo buddy. I am being disenfranchised and I don't even live in Joisey. There should be an investigation!!!!!!

you know that still happens in places today and i dont understand why?

Where I vote they NEVER ask nor does it matter, if you are on the list to vote, you vote.

In other places by me they do force you to declare what party you are registered for and they have three separate groups of machines. That always seemed shady to me.

People make me laugh about being worried about "in person" voter fraud when there is real "potential" for voter corruption. Worrying about in persons voter fraud is nonsensical.

I was living in the Metro-Detroit area of Michigan. Westland to be exact. It was the 10th largest city in the state at the time.

This is Christy trying to prevent poor people who don't have Internet from voting OR

This is Obama finding a last minute way to make it possible for Europeans and Mexicans to vote for him.

I COMPLETELY oppose this quick-fast idea. For one, there is no time to install necessary safeguards. So I can see a potential of 10 million voters for Obama or Romney, with NO way to figure which are legit or not - meaning ALL have to be accepted or ALL discarded- likely the latter.

I suspect there will be more votes cast in NJ than there are residents.

Well, I have voted in Louisiana, Texas, and Missouri, and have never seen that question before.

Others here say they have, so I guess it is me that is under-experienced in the matter.

mea culpa.
