I don't understand why foreigners pay close attention to US politics, it's not their affair.

Also, if these ideas have to be explained to one they should refrain from US politics in general..

C'mon - why do they wear sunglasses? how can the minority vote win the election?

they need to be explained because the US election race can be confusing if your not American and the reason why the world takes interest in the US elections is because you are the worlds superpower, have bases worldwide and are a key player in all aspects of western civillisation. You would have to be a moron not to take an interest in the US election because it affects all of us.

You have some merit there, however one is interested or they are not in US politics - it shouldn't have to be explained in some dumb article.

Besides, 90% of the time US politics doesn't affect the rest of the world, the legislation my congress passes doesn't affect you - it effects me.

If I was a foreigner I would certainly start with the US Constitution before I even had an opinion on the issues.

well lets be fair it was just a fun article trying to explain some of the lighter points of the US election ( not the serious issues). As for the legislation congress passing not affecting a Foreigner im not so sure just look at the 2008 econmic crisis that started in the US which came to head because of deregulation policies within the US. The fact is that because of globalisation we live in a much smaller world and any policy passed in the US could have an affect on the whole world which is why people from around the world take such an interest in the US election. You then consider Americas military power and also her humanitarian aid which many 3rd world countries rely on and you start to see why its so important worldwide. Look at the reaction to 9/11 the whole world stood still because it was an attack on America, it may as well have been an attack on Ancient Rome.
 
I disagree that candidates use folks instead of people because it is warmer--it is to avoid the inevitable racial arguments when someone refers to a minority group as people. "Um huh, we know what he was saying when he referred to blacks as those people."

We live in the Oprah era of politics--people want the warm fuzzy, not the tough love--and folks sounds more familiar than people which is more distant I guess. (But really I think it is to avoid stumbling into that "those people" tarpit).

The financial crisis was a domino effect that started with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Bill Clinton and the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) amendments...

It's amazing how a few people could actually change the world with bitching "no fair."

I suppose that is it's own topic within itself.

What a load of utter horse****. It amazes me how the right keep trying to push this utter lie.

And the US election matters to everyone on the planet.. some places more than others, but it matters.

Also that USA have a long tradition of marketing their movies and tv shows to the rest of the world. This of course increase the interest for USA both from a positive and critical perspective. Their people not just compares their own cultural values with USA, but also compares the values of fictional USA with real USA.
