One $15 donation was made at BarackObama.com using a confirmed Pakistani IP address and proxy server. In other words, as far as the campaign website was concerned, the donation was openly identified electronically as coming from Pakistan.

This is a stunt pulled by World Net Daily, but it appears they made a point.

Is anyone listening?

*shrug* the state of Iran could donate unlimited funds to some of these shadowy super pacs that don't have to show who their donors are. 15 bucks slipping through the cracks is really focusing on a non-existent issue and ignoring the elephant in the room.

I don't know what the point of their stunt was. They acknowledge it was a stunt, that it was their stunt....so it isn't even real money actually coming from Pakistan or from Osama.

If their point is foreign money should be banned, maybe looking at Romney's fundraising trip to England before the Olympics....well, why would WND do that?

What point do you think they made?

IP address local is not evidence of physical location and certainly not or nationality or permentant residence and they've not said whether the credit card was a US one and what name and address that was in (which is more significant). I also note that while they state it has been claimned the same isn't possible on Romney's campaign site, they either never tested that or did but haven't published the results.

He supports the guy who ordered his death?

That's some forgiveness...

*Yawn* If it were true, it wouldn't be a surprise since the world prefers Obama.

Campaigns have to report any contributions above 200$. I'm much more worried about super pacs getting million dollar check from people than I am that a possible foreigner might have donated 10 or 15 dollars to a candidate. I'm sorry, I just don't give a ****. Our election financing laws are jokes, and this really isn't even close to the worst part of it.

I think the point is that it could be a thousand $15 checks as far as we know.

or a million of them and we would be at almost 1% of the money which has been raised for the campaigns so far.

Something should be done to make it so that foreigner have to be smart enough to use a proxy server before they contribute to campaigns in the US. I agree with that. There should be at least some pro-forma systems in place.

But honestly, any foreigner with serious cash who wants to get involved in our campaigns certainly can in a big way and do it legally.

I think the purpose of the "stunt" was to show a lack of safeguards on the donation site, such as a lack of standard address validation(PitneyBowes) and CVV prompting.

Exactly, and they did just that.

The scoundrels supporting GOP superpacs are less patriotic than Bin Laden, and have cause this country greater harm.

Exactly, and they did just that.

The Democratic Party has supported strict campaign financing laws. The GOP has opposed them hammer and tong. Citizen United was of course a rightwing lawsuit, approved by the rightwing justices appointed by Bush and his rightwing GOP predecessors.

I see a pattern forming here.

Clever trick.

Of course, they should be prosecuted. But clever.

Oh, come on dude, lol. You and I both know that's not true.

Bin Laden just attacked us physically. The Koch Brothers and their ilk are attacking our democratic institutions. They are much more dangerous than al Qaeda. Al Qaeda can't destroy America; but plutocrats like the Kochs can destroy our republic.

Yes, absolutely true, but, since Obama is bad for America, hopefully most Americans and their states won't prefer Obama on Tuesday.

Literally anyone who wants to make the effort can, completely anonymously, donate unlimited money to support a candidate. Thanks, supreme court!
