2012 Election Prediction Contest

CNN.com hasn't called Florida yet. If they don't call it in the next two hours, no one gets any points for Florida as per the rules of this contest. :2razz:

OK, no problem. I paid for a membership anyways. And, contest or no contest, I nailed it. How do I Know? Because Romney has now conceded Florida because, the only votes left to count are mostly Democratic.

When Florida is finally called by the Florida Secretary of State, it will be 332-206, just as I predicted before the election. Damn, I'm good. LOL.

So there.............. I don't need your contest to know how accurate I was.

Here are the official results from the election contest!

CONTEST 1 - Since Florida hadn't been called as of the contest's deadline, no one got any points for it. So those of you who picked Romney to win Florida lucked out, because it looks like you would've gotten it wrong! Two states - Colorado and Virginia - qualified as "upsets" as per the contest rules, because Obama won and most participants picked Romney to win. Those two states were therefore worth extra points. Several of us had a perfect map...which was worth 104 points. The winners of Contest #1 are AdamT, poweRob, Verax, pbrauer, Kandahar, and Anagram.

CONTEST 2 - The votes have not all been counted so the final popular vote is still subject to slight changes...but as per the contest rules, we're going with the results as of 6:00 PM Thursday. Obama received 50.5%, Romney received 48.0%. The winner of Contest #2 was Anagram with -6 points, who predicted that Obama would get 50.4% and Romney would get 48.5%.

CONTEST 3 - The Democrats did very well in the Senate, winning most of the competitive races. Two states - Montana and North Dakota - qualified as upsets, because the Democrat won even though the majority of contest participants picked the Republican to win. Sadly, in the case of North Dakota, no one got the upset bonus points because not a single person was daring enough to pick the Democrat to win that Senate seat! The winner of Contest #3, somewhat awkwardly, was umm...me, Kandahar. I correctly predicted 31 of 33 Senate seats including the upset in Montana, for a total of 64 points.

CONTEST 4 - As of the contest's deadline, CNN had called 233 races for the Republicans and 194 for the Democrats, with 8 uncalled. Unfortunately, that really screwed up our scoring because most of us were within that 8-seat range. As a result, there was no clear winner for Contest #4. Several of us scored -8 points: Kandahar, Anagram, poweRob, Fisher, and zimmer.

OVERALL - And the overall winner of the 4 contests...with a whopping 150 points: ANAGRAM! Anagram is truly our election oracle, with a perfect electoral map, an extremely accurate popular vote forecast, only missing 2 Senate races, and getting the House total quite accurate.

Congratulations to all the contest winners! :)

My final 2012 predictions:

1. Obama 303-Romney 235. Same as before with Obama winning all the states he won in '08 except for FL, NC, IN, and NE-2. I could see Obama winning Florida or losing Virginia or Colorado, though.

2. Obama 50.4%, Romney 48.5%.

3. Same as before with Republicans winning MT, ND, NE, NV, AZ, TX, UT, TN, WY, and MS, and Democrats winning CA, WA, HI, NM, MN, WI, OH, FL, IN, PA, DE, VA, MO, MD, MI, NJ, WV, NY, CT, RI, and MA. Independents win in VT, and ME. Democrats 52, Republicans 47, Angus King 1. MT, ND, NV, and MO were the hardest to predict I think. I think Romney's coattails will be enough to drag Rehberg to a win in Montana and Berg in North Dakota, but Obama and Romney's coattails won't be enough to help unpopular candidates in Nevada and Missouri.

4. Pretty much a crap-shoot, but I'll go with Republicans 235-Democrats 200.

Congratulations to all the winners especially ANAGRAM. Way to go!!!!!!!

corrected - thank you...

I guess the proper answer is ANAGRAM is the one who kicked our ass in this contest. ;)
