Sorry, but you don't get to write off Sweden because it's slightly less socialistic than it used to be. It's still far more socialistic than the US and the Swedes like it that way. It's working for them very well. You could say the same thing for Germany and other north european countries.
What you and others on the right want to do is attack the strawman that anyone in the US wants to install a hard-core communist government. There may be a handful of people who feel that way, but it's not remotely what Democrats or liberals and general would promote. Democrats and liberals generally promote moving ever so slightly closer to the Swedish/German model, which is obviously very effective.
Now give us an example of a country that has succeeded on the Republican model: very low taxes, weak safety net, little regulation of business or markets, decentralized control.
