Romney: 'Some Gays Are Actually Having Children. It's Not Right on Paper. It's Not Right in Fact.'

Waas reveals how, after gays and lesbians in Massachusetts won the right to marry in 2003, Governor Romney wouldn't allow the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics to revise birth certificate forms for babies born to same-sex couples. The plan was to have the box for "father," for example, relabeled "father or second parent." But according to documents obtained by Waas, Romney rejected the plan, demanding the agency continue using old forms. Romney then demanded hospitals get permission from his office each time a child was born to a same sex-couple in order to cross out, with a pen, the label "father" or "mother," and write-in, with a pen, "second parent." (Romney also required gay male parents to get a court order before any birth certificate was issued.)

I have no problem with what he did or what he said. Why do you? What is the purpose of a birth certificate? To list the legal father and the mother of a child. Susan Jones and Elaine Smith are not the father/mother of a child. That day will probably come...it'll probably be altered to allow for that...but I have no problem that this isn't that particular time.

If you read the article it's all hear-say.

Much ado about nothing.

2 parents willing to adopt and raise a child should not be limited to one male and one female on the birth certificate. I'm not gay, but I support gay rights.

I support gay rights too. This is more about the child than the parents, in my opinion. I don't feel that strongly either way, but, then, I wasn't the Governor of Massachusetts and forced to take a stand one way or the other.

Ya, this is a lot of stuff about what Waas says about Romney more than him being on the record on this.

in the case of a lesbian couple having a child... which one is the father?

in the case of a gay male couple.. which one is the mother?

Children were the big losers when Massachusetts legalized gay marraige as the Catholic Church was forced to shut down their adoption services. To his credit Gov. Romney introduced the bill "An Act Protercting Religious Freedom" in an attempt to exempt Catholic Charities from a state anti discrimination law that says it must provide adoption services to gay and llesbian couples.

better a child have two caring responsible gay parents than some crack ho who has 7 kids by 6 men and doesn't give a rat's ass

I agree... I think most folks agree.

not sure what this has to do with listing the child's birth mother and father on the birth certificate , though.

The article in the link was written by a gay activist. There is no mention of governors of other states and their policies on this matter. As far as I know there aren't ANY states that have taken this step. It is an attempt to push the US into the same decision that France has recently made to remove "Father" and "Mother" from the civil code. It is cultural suicide.

I have always wondered how ubber conservative would choose if they were forced to choose between a child being aborted or the same child being adopted by a gay couple once it is born.

a kid raised by two caring gays most likely will not end up on welfare either

I have two gay male friends who've adopted two little boys from South America. They're both professionals, and the neighborhood kids all play at their house 'cause they have so many toys. The guys are great fun; really nice. I wonder now how they handled the adoption? One? Both? Hmmm....

There should be separate labels for biological mother and biological father and another two slots for legal parents.

And biological parents should be recorded for medical histories and the like.

If we could finally legalize it across the nation, it would be easier to assume how.

Sounds like a private placement adoption where some relative/parent got to chose/authorize them. I know that a lot of Euro-Russian agencies do not allow adoption to single men or gay couples, but will allow for adoption to a single woman, though married is preferred. Some will only allow foreign adoptions for married straight couples.

I'm not surprised . . . This part actually made me laugh: "Every child has a right to a mother and father."

Yes - by being gay and parenting a child you're violating a constitutional right. Quick - call the ACLU!

I find it strange that he's such an idiot in this department but clings to a faith that in the US fought - and still fights - for the right to have multiple partners in one marriage.

Does he believe that polygamous relationships go without the two wives ever getting physically involved? Honestly - that is an endorsement of same-sex marriage. Don't care what anyone says - if you're married and he's married to her - then the two women are married from the getgo.

how were they "forced" to shut down?

They either had to violate their moral beliefs or close, very similar to what is taking place now with Obamacare and the mandate over insurance for contraception, sterilization and abortifacients. They sought an exemption from the law that said they must provide adoption services to samde sex couples. Romney did not have the power to grant it but attempted to pass a law through the legislature.

oh so they chose to shut down, they werent forced, while I agree the kids do lose and thats a shame the church still chose to close and thats their fault.

adoption/foster care isnt a religious realm its a public one and they must play by public rules like everybody else.

If Romney gets elected he is going to have to leave that cult religion crap at the door. We are not voting for a pope. Concentrate on the sweet deal government contracts that steals from the taxpayers and cut the waste going into some scumbag's back pocket.

Just work on the wasteful government spending everywhere and forget what Americans are doing in their own homes.

That's not a Constitutional right, it's part of the UN's Declaration of Human Rights. Another reason I refuse to take them seriously on the subject.

Mainstream LDS prohibits polygamy as an excommunicable offense. They're not even a little bit fighting to legalize polygamy; that's a major stigma that they're fighting to overcome.

It's all the grubby little fundie sects that practice polygamy, and the only thing they're fighting for is to stay out of the spotlight.
