Father of Slain SEAL: Who Made the Decision Not to Save My Son? | The Weekly Standard

“When [Obama] came over to our little area” at Andrew Air Force Base, says Woods, “he kind of just mumbled, you know, ‘I’m sorry.’ His face was looking at me, but his eyes were looking over my shoulder like he could not look me in the eye. And it was not a sincere, ‘I’m really sorry, you know, that your son died,’ but it was totally insincere, more of whining type, ‘I’m sorry.’”

Woods says that shaking President Obama’s hands at his son’s memorial service was “like shaking hands with a dead fish.”

“It just didn’t feel right,” he says of his encounter with the commander in chief. “And now that it’s coming out that apparently the White House situation room was watching our people die in real time, as this was happening,” Woods says, he wants answers on what happened—and why there was no apparent effort to save his son’s life.

“Well, this is what Hillary did,” Woods continues. “She came over and, you know, did the same thing—separately came over and talked with me. I gave her a hug, shook her hand. And she did not appear to be one bit sincere—at all. And you know, she mentioned that the thing about, we’re going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video. That was the first time I had even heard about anything like that.”

Woods continues: “Apparently even the State Department had a live stream and was aware of their calls for help. My son wasn’t even there. He was at a safe house about a mile away. He got the distress call; he heard them crying for help; that’s why he and Glen risked their lives to go that extra mile just to take care of the situation. And I’m sure that wasn’t the only one received that distress call—you know, come save our lives … I’m sure that other people in the military, in the State Department, in the White House, received that same call that he would receive. And I’m sure that most military people would jump at the chance … to protect that life [and] not leave anyone behind.”

Woods made clear that he isn't "mad," but that he wants to the "truth" to be told because he feels " abandoned."

The mother of Glen Doherty, a Navy SEAL who was one of four Americans killed in the Sept. 11 attack in Libya, told a Boston TV station that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney shouldn't politicize her son's death.

"I don't trust Romney," she said. "He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda. It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama."

"Woods says he was told by military officials that the military could have "come above [the area] and completely carpeted area," and therefore saved the officials in Benghazi, Libya. But that someone gave the command for the American military not to save the lives of the Americans under attack."

:hm

Wow, nothing to do with the OP, who would have thought he'd do that?

As to the OP, I have no doubt those politicians mentioned in the article didn't really care. Perhaps if it was someone that would have voted for them they might shed a tear.

I've noticed on more than one occasion that Obama has a baaad habit. I know he's busy....I know he's stressed....and I know he knows better. But he forgets. What does he forget? When you shake hands with a person, you look them straight in the eyes and "share the moment" with them. I've seen him do this on the floor of Congress and in campaign crowd videos. As he is shaking hands with one? He is looking on to the next. If you have time to shake someone's hand? You simply MUST take that extra two seconds and fully engage. That is probably what this young man felt.

Oh hey the desperate clown is here to juggle and make us laugh /wave AdamT

Hillary Clinton told this guy to his face they were going to arrest and prosecute the innocent man who made that youtube video. She lied to his face ... and you have the GALL to come into this thread and whine about politicizing an issue? Have you no shame?

Yeah, well, this father felt differently.

Yeah, well, this father felt differently.

Two different SEALs, two different families, two different reactions.

And here's another one:

Mary Commaday, the mother of slain U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, on Thursday again dismissed the politicization of her son's death during the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

"I don't think it is productive to lay blame on people," Commaday said during a segment aired on CBS News.

The sentiment echoes her response to a San Francisco television station two weeks ago. In her first in-depth interview after Stevens' death, Commaday refused to point fingers.

"How can anyone place blame for his death -- these were circumstances beyond our government’s control," Commaday told NBC Bay Area. "I am perfectly aware that there was danger. But he was a grown man, well-educated and careful. I knew he was out there doing good work.”

But y'all keep trying to turn it into a political circus. It shows a lot of respect for the dead.

Oh, please.

Some amazing spin there mr dnc operative. Considering the years of blaming Bush, calling for war crimes trials for him, exploiting all the dead from Iraq.

I wasn't posting here when Bush was President. I assume Adam was always yelling at his fellow Democrats when they politicized the dead soldiers in an effort to make Bush look bad, of course?

This was a very difficult situation. there can be no question about this. From what I hear, the attackers numbered more than 100 and the defenders were apparently 4. The fire fight went on for something between 6 and 10 hours. SEALS are some tough SOB's.

My problem with this is WHY the armed forces in the area did not respond. There were a couple destroyers off shore and various military bases and literally thousands of US Troops within about a two hour flight. We have all see the movies and the news reels of the military practicing war games for every contingency. Is it possible that this particular situation is the only one: An ambassador in a war zone- That our military did not see as being a threat? Seems unlikely.

Why were they paralyzed? For some reason, I'm thinking of the WW2 Panzer Divisions that sat idle while the allies invaded the Normandy beaches. The guy at the top had forbidden any deployment outside of a certain area and the minions were terrified to do the wrong thing in violation of the orders regarding the Rules of Engagement. Those closest to the top guy were afraid to ask the question.

Is the military hostage to the political needs of a political campaign? Why else would our State Department and the Intelligence community watch for 6 to 10 hours while the ambassador is killed? Could be just runaway incompetence of every single individual in the entire US military. Could be a military like adherence to orders.

The ambassador and the SEALS are dead.

We should probably just blame George Bush.

I think the view of the parents is that Romney shouldn't politicize their deaths and Obama shouldn't have caused their deaths.

It is very likely that the mother didn't want all those "According to friends, he supported X or hated Y" which is hardly the same thing as finding out the Inconvenient Truth.
