Nation more polarized than ever.

What has this nation become? I swear it is like we are two countries now. I heard from the Idaho GOP that they would propose check points at the border of Washington to keep the legal marijuana out if we legalize marijuana in two weeks which is looking more like it all the time. Why does it have to be this way? Why can't the right wing admit they are getting their butt kicked in the culture war and the liberals are losing from the fiscal side and compromise? A house divided can not stand.

It's divided because children from broken, ruleless homes are growing up and having more children from broken, ruleless homes.

We're not divided as much as we're becoming mutated. People of integrity who live a life of purpose and accountability are becoming rarer by the generation.

I think the root of the problem is drastic change in our media over the last 30 years. Americans have always had disagreements about political philosophy, but it used to be that we were all basing our opinions on the same facts. We had newspapers that people generally trusted and three TV networks that put on news programming that generally considered to be ... well ... THE NEWS.

But with the advent of Cable TV and the internet and partisan radio, people started moving away from mainstream news sources and gravitating to one-sided opinion mongers. I really don't know how we find our way back to sanity.

On this we agree. I see some grave times ahead.

Why do we have to have this polarization? I can explain why.... Because a man named Mister Lincoln couldn't simply leave well enough alone. No, he had to go and decide that the Federal Government was more important than the States, the People, and the US Constitution. IF Lincoln had simply allowed the South to leave the Union, we likely wouldn't have these issues. In fact, I still think it would be a good idea to split the nation in two, for everyone's best interest.

LOL....sounds like Canada with the french wanting to seperate from the english.....I have to admit your post made me laugh because as a dual citizen it's always interesting to see that our two nations while quite different in government structures still have a lot of similarities in people issues and division.....:2razz:

I think the fuel of the great divide is the fact that liberals are winning the culture wars and conservatives are winning the fiscal wars. Until the conservatives stop acting like a bunch of moral crusaders on social issues and the liberals admit they spend like a bunch of drunken sailors then we might get something done. The one exception is the Abortion issue wherethe country is evenly split.

I don't think Men should have any say in the vote for or against abortion", that would eleminate Half the problem' I"m jus sayin
