This year's US presidential elections are projected to put out 3.6 million political ads, with an estimated 66-70% of them being negative. Why do you think candidates use these ads? Do they get you involved or turn you off? Does one presidential candidate use more negativity than the other in your mind.

Clearly, the campaigns have run the numbers and found that more people are turned to your candidate than ticking off voters in general, which is why they use them.

Still holding out hope for the "political ads - off" option on my DVR.

Or an "opt out" on phone calls. Ugh. If I have to listen to another recording... I'm on the Do Not Call list, but it doesn't cover political ads.

People use negative campaign ads because they work. As long as the work, they will not go away.

Supposedly in some areas they are using reverse psychology. I have heard that one side will inundate supporters of the other side with calls/polls that will leave the impression that the side the listener already supports is doing it so they will get turned off the election and not turn out.

Wow. If that got ousted in a media report, it seems like that could backfire. Though it the call's receiver never finds out, I guess it works.

it's nothing more that adapting to human nature

why do you choose between one of two acceptable restaurants? because restaurant A is expected to please you in a way more than restaurant B at the time you are looking to dine

why do you choose between one of two acceptable automobiles? because car A is expected to offer you something you cannot get in car B at the time you are looking to buy

those ads respond to how consumers behave

Right. If we didn't click on those type of headlines, people wouldn't use them...

Trumped-Up Charges? Republicans Rejected Man

Here's an example of someone rejecting an opportunity. Putting aside whether this Obama story is credible or true, I think it's telling about the kind of man Romney is. I think it was a wise move, even if true this late in the campaign.

They do it because either they can't think of anything better to do like let us know what they really think or its just so engrained in the process they don't know any better.

They are used to reveal something the candidates won't... but... in short...

In Obama's case he doesn't have a pot to piss in so attacking Romney is all he's got.

In Romney's case he has to do the job the press fails to do.

I certainly noticed that trend. These calls are more like to discourage people to vote for the opposing candidate. But I can see through their tactics. It's the attitude of a loser who doesn't have the ability to lead the people and implement positive changes so what he does instead is pull his opponent down with him with nothing more than an unfounded assumptions.

This is not about any specific candidate but I'm referring to all these political calls I received. This is why I never stop reporting these callers to Callercenter.com in the hopes that I can warn everybody else about what kind of a leader this disguised crook would make.

Well, my thought is that if they didn't work, they wouldn't do it; so . . .

Look, there's a whole passel-full of people out there that don't know anything beyond what they may hear in sound bytes. They're too busy, they're not interested, and, we can only hope and pray, they don't vote.

But, of course, we know that last part isn't true.
