I'm not posting here a whole lot here until after the election is over, but I did want to post this. Early voting opened in Texas today, and today I cast my vote for president - Gary Johnson. Sure, he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, but he was the only honest candidate in the race. Call it a wasted vote if you want, but I am perfectly happy that I voted my conscience instead of whoring my vote out to whoever I thought had the best chance to win, and who told people whatever lies he had to tell in order to win. :)

Cya' after the election is over, and you can then tell me all about how I lost.

Bingo! I'd rather vote for what I want than to vote for more of what I don't want. I've already voted for Johnson.

A vote for Gary Johnson was no different than if you wrote in your own name as a write-in.

That is incorrect. The more people that vote libertarian this election, the more attention the party will get from the media. He won't win this election, but it's not about this election, it's about the future ones.

I cast for Johnson today as well.... for about the same reasons as you did.

i've done my duty to myself and my country... and if people are upset over who I vote for or why I voted for them... I wish them good luck in getting me to care.

Probably true, but neither Romney nor Obama deserves my vote. So I'd rather give my vote to someone who does deserve it.

I'm voting for Romney, and since they don't check ID, I'll then go to another polling place and vote for Romney again, and I'll tell them that my name is AdamT. :) :p

Not really.

A vote where you write your name in at best may show, if a small percentage of people do it, that individuals are generally unhappy with all options. That said, individual name write ins aren't exactly something that shows up in almost any kind of media coverage or even historical data that's easily available to my knowledge.

A vote for a 3rd party at least has the chance of contributing to a small, but noticable, percentage of people voting that way. And there's always the chance that you at least perhaps crack upper limit of the past few decades that a Libertarian has managed to actually garner, perhaps giving an indication to the political class that the ideologies impact is at least increasing a bit.

It'll have about the same effect policy wise in the near term as writing in your own name, but has the capabilities of having significantly more effects in a variety of generalizd political and social ways than writing your own name in.
