UPDATE (12:03 p.m.):

"This was a miscommunication on the ground. Any reporter is entirely free to speak with event attendees." ~ Amy Dudley (spokeswoman for Vice President Biden)

"[For what it's worth], Chicago and Biden's traveling press aides have said I can talk with whomever, ignore local staff." ~ Joe Vardon

Was he going to ask about Obama phones?

Standard play. The press is controlled and limited. Ask the wrong question, you aren't allowed back. And they all know this. Been going on since at least Bush, probably well before that point.

Come on.. stop doing this Zimmer.... dont throw stones when you live in a glass house. Romney has banned reporters from events and asking questions many many times.

This doesn't change the fact that the reporter was not allowed to talk to voters at Biden's event. Does it?

It sucks that people are human.

It sucks that people are human.

It sucks when their humanity stifles freedom of the press in favor of their own candidate. I am merely pointing out that your UPDATE doesn't change the fact that the reporter was stifled. By the Obama campaign. It's not really big news, but that's the truth of the matter -- your UPDATE aside.

It's a mistake. People are human. Humans make mistakes.

Getting drawn into the drama-rama of it helps no-one.

I'm gonna chalk this one up to lackey failure and avoid blaming the entire campaign for what appears to have been a screw up, as the "victim" asserted later himself.

**** happens mistakes happen. Glad they got this cleared up./

So the fact that it was just a local numbskull acting without authority isn't relevant? Is that what you're trying to say? Because to me, it makes the story a complete non story.

It's a completely nonstory to me either way, Adam. Presidents/Campaigns have been doing this for generations.

Yes, he made the mistake of acting like a Stalin era apparatchik and got called on it. Getting all dramatic about free speech is pointless. Free speech is so passé.

By the way, this has happened numerous times at Biden events, so I doubt that it's a "mistake"; more like a tacit policy.

I KNOW THEY’RE IN THE TANK, BUT WHY DO THEY PUT UP WITH THIS? The Politico story today that “Reporter ‘not allowed’ to talk to voters at Biden event” follows several previous stories of journalists being manhandled by Biden’s staffers:

  • Biden Team Apologizes to Reporter for Sticking Him In Closet.
  • Thug Administration: White House Wants Jason Mattera Investigated for Biden Question.
  • Campaign Staffers Prevent Reporters From Asking Joe Biden Questions At Ohio Event.
  • MSNBC, Politico, WaPo Reporters Complain About Biden Campaign Control Of Press.

I thought Obama was the cool, aloof, prickly one who needed the ‘prompter and lots of glad-handing, and Biden his friendly, cheerful, “hail fellow fare thee well” surrogate. But then trying times often bring out the face of desperation.

The mainstream media is so pathetic for not standing up for free speech rights.

The bold part is where you are wrong. The campaign explicitly said it was fine for them to talk to reporters.
